Spooks Series 8

Quite enjoyed that episode though I'd say the 'Oh no! Massive conspiracy!' storyline is a little OTT just at the minute.

I did not expect that ending! What a downer! I'm still convinced that Ros will cop it this series though, especially since Hermione Norris has been doing all the publicity interviews.

Well, there's less sinister reasons for that - they probably didn't want to give away whether Harry was still alive, or that you-know-who was coming back, the newcomers wouldn't be as interesting to the mainstream press, and the people who've left mid-season might not be available if they were doing other things. So it pretty had to be her or Richard Armitage handling the PR duties.

^ True enough. I'd imagine if Richard Armitage wasn't filming that Sky series in South Africa, they'd have done the publicity together. What I meant was, actors who are leaving tend to have more time on their hands to do the interviews; last year Rupert Penry-Jones was doing all the TV appearances and magazine interviews, and a few years before that it was Keeley Hawes and David Oyelowo's faces on all the covers (since everyone knew Matthew Macfayden had quit).

Ratings news for first 3 episodes are in and am afraid its not good news. Not including BBC 3 first runs but here they are...

BBC 2 Airings Only
Episode One - 6 million viewers and 25% audience share

Episode Two - 4.5 million viewers and 19% audience share

Episode Three - 4.6 million and 18% audience share

The BBC 3 airing could be giving decent numbers but the timelslot for the BBC 3 airing is not exactly great sicne Ironically another BBC show HIGNFY probably saps the audience share for BBC viewers. Last year even with BBC 3 airings the normal broadcasts for Spooks were between 5-5.5 million with better audience shares.

Spooks has been expected to end for the last 2 seasons so 3rd time may be the charm though IMO BBC would be clever to finish Spooks off with a 5 episode TW COE style plot. Spooks is a show that was built for such a season style

Aw bum, I really don't want Spooks to end! That said I hope they get enough warning that they can end it properly. I'm not usually a shipper, but if Harry and Ruth don't get to sail off into the sunset togeather I will not be happy.

I'll miss Ros' backside as well on a less romantic note!

^I think it's time is past, I don't see the point in wishing for shows to end, but I hope if it does end they do something good with it for the fans, and that anything that replaces it is a decent replacement and not just rubbish.

Doing a week long story does sound like a great way to end spooks.
Also if we knew it was going to be the last series all bets or off on who lives and dies.

agreed a Children of Earth style plot for final season for Spooks would be awesome.

They could do the 2012 storyline and let everyone die when the nuke goes off.
I think Spooks should just pretend that, Code 9 didnt happen, or make it an alt timeline.

Spooks Code 9 has been disavowed hasn't it?

I'd always hoped they'd bring Mathew Maccfayden back as Tom when it ended. He would make an awesome bad guy, and likely he'd be a bad guy with very good reasons for being bad.

They don't even have to do that; Code 9 was just a television show about spies that happened to use the Spooks branding to grab viewers.

Well not really. It was envisioned as a Spooks spin off from the start. I think it started off as Rogue Spooks then Spooks: Liberty.

I mean in terms of its continuity with the main series. There were no character crossovers or references to old Spooks episodes, so Kudos and the BBC don't need to acknowledge any of the events in the main Spooks show come 2012 (if it lives that long).

you are both right, it was pitched as a Spooks spin-off, but they could use the "branding" argument.

Code 9 patently didn't hapen in the Spooks universe, because nobody would nuke London on Harry's watch!

If we get to 2012 you will find code 9 was a dream of Ruth's and Harry was in the shower all along.

Spooks Code 9 was awful, the acting and writing turned me off in 20 minutes :wtf: really how did it get made ?
