Spooks Series 8

Good news for the fans...

Despite the 8th season having the lowest audience in Spook's history the show will return for a 9th season in 2010.

Peter Firth (Harry) confirmed this during the Collectormania event in London in 2009, that a ninth series had been approved and filming would start in February 2010.

No word though on episode number though another 8 will take it to 80 episodes. I still hold hope for it to reach 10 seasons with the 10th being a 5 part mini series like TW:COE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Spooks_episodes#cite_note-4

The ratings weren't helped by the BBC not only moving it to Wednesday but Wednesday straight after Waterloo bloody Road!

Soooo, that ending gets the award for Most Piss-Poor CGI Fireball.

And despite what I've been saying for the past two months, I actually believe Ros gets out alive. All that "I've had fun playing Ros" from Hermione Norris has just been a red herring.

I stopped watching around episode 2 or 3, can't remember. Guess I'm just a bit sick of Spooks at this point.

Well it clearly isn't quite as good as it was but I still love it and was really on the edge of my seat last night.

I really do hope Ros survives. Actually when Harry got a car to take him to the hotel I started to get a real horrible feeling that they were going to cross the line and kill him off! They can still surprise me, I didn't expect Sarah Caulfield to die like that, and I loved Ros shooting her in the leg.

Great news that there's going to be a series 9 though. I do wonder if they'll plan to wrap the series up in that one though? I was thinking that a Torchwood style 5 night event series might help inject new life into the show a bit (I don't quite know why I'm saying that cos I still love it) but there are some things I'd like to see in Series 9.

1. No more bloody bombs. Seriously come up with 8 eps none of which rely on any kind of explosive device...it is possible.

2. Don't kill anyone. Seriously when was the last season that no major cast member died or left?

3. If you are going to wrap it up please give Sir Harry and Ruth a happy ending (99% of the time I'm not much of a shipper but I love those two!)

^Has there ever been a series where none of the Spooks have been killed or written out of the show? I seem to remember one of them was killed in the second or third episode.

I wonder if spooks have had a budget cut in the past they have had
2 geeks ,2 JR Agents ,2 SR Agents,Ruth and Harry.
But this series Harry is running low on staff Does no one in MI5 want to work for a department with such a high death rate.

Bob, yeah they did play her as a member of the team, but she did die in episode 2!

^re their staffing, I'm not sure if its a budgetry thing, or a story thing. At times in the past they have seemed to have too many characters floating about. At one stage they had Zaf, Adam and Ros, it was too many and too often Zaf had nothing to do. Similarly they didn't really need both Malcolm and Colin most of the time, and I like how Tariq fulfils two roles in that he's a geek but seems to be used as a junior agent as well.

Have to say I like Tariq, he's fitted in well...a lot better than Ben the year before who was awful.

So I treated myself to the series five DVD (£12 thank you, Amazon) and have been watching it all day today. I couldn't think why I didn't watch it when it was on TV, then remembered that it was shown when I was in halls at uni, so I only saw the first two episodes at home. I hadn't been overly impressed with Rupert Penry Jones in his first series but have to say that he definitely found his footing in this series. Harry was, of course, excellent as always.

One thing occurred to me while I was watching that never has before though: Ignoring the fact that she would be 20 years too old in the Abramsverse, does anyone else think Hermione Norris would make a good Carol Marcus?
