Look, Angelina Jolie as Nurse Chapel makes mountains of good sense from a dramatic point of view, and it fits in with canon. She always pined for Spock, now she can fight with Zoe Saldana for the hand of the Last Vulcan.

I don't know why people are so intent to run with this. . . well, I do, actually. . . the writers have gone into lockdown secrecy mode, and no one will get any info on the story until they are good and ready to release it. . . since no one knows what they've come up with, people feel free to let their imaginations run away with them. . . .

Apparently because women should be there only to affect the male characters, so the best thing you can do with a female character is kill her so her boyfriend would get angry and hurt...

So what? It's not like Star Trek is a B-movie franchise that few people watch and that she wouldn't get well paid for. I didn't see actors rushing to leave the X-Men franchise or The Lord of the Rings, or, heck, even The Matrix, despite its sequels being so unpopular.

Honestly, the friendship between Kirk and Spock was only just getting teased out during XI. They started out hating each other, but eventually came to mutual respect--that's as far as it went. They may do it in part three or even four (kill Spock, I mean) but only when his death would matter and hurt the most. Besides, how many times did these characters die during an episode of TOS only to be brought back or discovered to be only "mostly dead" at the last minute? You can only play that card so many times before it loses credibility.

I hate to say it, but in Hollywood there often aren't many options for actresses around 35 years and up, even the popular ones. I'm not saying it's right, but that's the way it is (have you heard anything about Halle Berry lately)? It's a sexist industry always in search of the next pretty young thing. By the time Star Treks XIII and XIV come around, Saldana will be over that age, and in terms of getting major blockbuster roles, I don't know how many options she'll have left.

You know I've noticed a pattern in Trek movie speculation since Abrams has become involved.

In Trek XI it was speculated the Spock Prime would die.

In Trek XII it is being speculated that NuSpock will die.

I ask you what has Spock ever done to you people that you want him to die?
