Spock confirmed for S2

Just no. Cast a good modern actor. This show already has a tough enough time standing on its own.
Right. Which is why they would not bring Spock back at all. But at least CGI Nimoy would by necessity limit the Spock appearance to a couple of second cameo, which would be a good thing.

Quinto would be some lazy ass casting, especially in a universe where Sarek, Amanda and Pike are played by different actors.

CGI Nimoy would be terrible on a TV budget. I remember when another Kurtzman show used CGI to bring back a dead actor:

They'll cast another actor in the role.

I think Cavill is a perfect Superman, but I enjoyed the Hochner whasisname version of the character on Supergirl quite a bit. There's no reason not to have different Spocks in different media, if folks will just unclench a bit.

There is nothing at this phase of the franchise I would have found more dull and repetitive than the standard "well-formed crew" format. I'd rather see a journey and earn that outcome than start at the destination. It's one of the things "Orville" got really right. To hell with these perfect, "best of the best" crews.
Orville started in about the same place as any Trek show other than TOS with the crew meeting each other and getting to know each other throughout the first season. And since it's a comedy, they aren't the best of the best in action, but despite their tomfoolery, we have been told (and sometimes shown) that they are all surprisingly brilliant at their specific jobs (and not necessarily anything else). It's something that happens throughout a season, but need not be the focus of the storytelling.

The Superman situation is a bit different. Whoever played him on the crappy Supergirl TV show benefited from Cavill's divisive Superman being received really poorly by audiences.

The Supergirl actor got to play it closer to the popular and definitive Chris Reeve version.

Should be interesting to see a new actor for Spock though. Especially amidst Star Trek 4 in production.

When did that happen? One minute you're the new Spock and the next - too old

Maybe Spock is lost in a parallel, quantum leap-frogged, spore induced, time-anomaly whereby his mirror self has merged with his prime and Kelvin selves resulting in the hideous formation of a 41 year old man?

I'd rather they recast than use a CGI Leonard Nimoy. I think having a CGI Nimoy as Spock would be in poor taste.

I wouldn't mind if they went with Zachary Quinto but they probably don't want confusion with the films.

No.

It's not any different, not at all.

Trek fans just need to relax and take themselves less seriously.

It's different in that Quinto was generally a well received Spock, and Cavill was a terrible Superman that audiences didn't care for.

That being said, there's definitely room for a new actor to play Spock now because the JJ films have grown increasingly unpopular and irrelevant in recent years, especially after Beyond bombing.

Okay, if this much effort was put into casting a NEW Spock actor, he's definitely joining the Discovery and becoming a significant character.

Guess Enterprise will indeed be in drydock, and Pike+Spock will serve together on the Discovery.

Kurzman is messing with everyone. They did cast Spock.. as a child... who will probably appear in a flashback or something. Recasting Spock is not same thing as recasting Pike.
Before ST09 Pike appeared in ONE episode (or two depending how you look at it). Pike is a smaller character than Sarek (we have 3 now of those) so it's not big deal to recast him. Pine/Quinto combo as recast Kirk/Spock works because of the whole Kelvin/reboot thing. If you reboot Star Trek, reboot the characters, fine.
But if they keep insisting STD is not a reboot, then they cannot recast MAJOR characters like Spock or Kirk. IF they actually have, it will be very fun to see the reaction of the Internet. I doubt few will say anything good at all.

*cough*Saavik*cough*

And, to switch to an entirely different show, Darren was recast on Bewtiched. I think the Dick Sargent and Dick York episodes are still part of the same Bewtiched timeline. Same idea with Star Trek.
