Spock/Burnham

I've bolded the important part here. Sarek is ashamed (as he can be for a Vulcan) for plotting genocide. Starfleet agreed with that plan, and he judges them to be bad people for not refusing to go along with that plan.
Fair point. Kind of similar to his attitude towards Spock as well.

So one of the burning questions since the finale has been "Why did Spock never mention he had a sister?"

Actually no, to me that really isn’t a burning question. But you know what is? Why has Captain James T. Kirk never read his First Officer’s Personnel file? And on a somewhat related note, why does the Chief Medical Officer of the USS Enterprise know, like, next to nothing about basic Vulcan Physiology?

Seriously, Vulcans and Humans have been interacting with each other for over a century at this point and no one has ever heard of the Pon Farr or that Vulcan’s have extra eye lids? Really, the lack of knowledge regarding Vulcans and Vulcan culture on the part of Kirk and McCoy is staggering...

McCoy has a specialist in Sickbay for that kind of nonsense.

Who? Nurse Chapel?!!

Sybok is not canon.
"But CBS says it's all canon"

CBS are a giant corporation that basically say everything is canon because they want fan money. Lets be real, TAS is not canon, and several of the movies are not canon, especially Star Trek V.

Roddenberry did not consider STV or TAS canon so when Star Trek came back to TV with TNG, TAS and films like STV were completely and totally ignored and basically retconned out of existence by the writers. Sarek never in TNG when dealing with his family mentions Sybok, so it's clear the writers went with Roddenberry's vision that Sybok and STV is not canon. Just like in TAS the Holodeck exists, but is brand new technology in TNG.

I've always hated the "CBS says it's canon so it's canon" nonsense, no, that's horse crap, CBS do not make Star Trek, They're just a bunch of suits who probably don't even know anything about Star Trek beyond the $$$, the writers do and the writers and CREATOR of Star Trek did not consider this shit canon, so it's not canon. TNG further confirms this with Sarek never, ever mentioning Sybok despite the story line in TNG would have most likely involved Sybok as well if he actually existed.

On Burnham, the problem with Burnham is that she was written by a 14 year old over at fanfiction.net and gave her the dumbest Mary-Sue backstory in Star Trek. The "Sister of Spock" stuff is complete and utter eye rolling nonsense and again, completely contradicts Sareks storyline in TNG. But, it's canon, it doesn't fit in well and it shows what hacks the writers are, but it's canon so how will it be resolved? I suspect the writers just hope you never question it.

Sooo how do you feel about the Star War EU? Cuz according to Disney...

Don't ask those questions. Just turn in to an argument about copyright and "true canon."

Except on this point:
"The "Sister of Spock" stuff is complete and utter eye rolling nonsense and again, completely contradicts Sareks storyline in TNG."

Anyone care to explain which son of Sarek Picard attended the wedding of? Since, obviously, only Discovery contradicts Sarek's backstory. The man has never, ever, been shown to be very private.

^^
Well the daughter had no choice but to go to Starfleet after he screwed her over by choosing his son, who then screwed both of them over by choosing Starfleet over the Vulcan Space Sailors.

Bad Spock. :p

I actually found that story line oddly moving. It gave a... I don't know. I didn't need a REASON as such. But it gave him a struggle. He's done what he feels is his very best and the universe just won't cooperate. He tried having both and he lost all. It didn't fall into soap opera territory for me.

I found so much of Disco's first season to be forgettable. That stuck with me.

I like Sarek and Burnham. The problem is that they really NEED to include Spock somehow. And no they're saying they won't. Then why set up this story?!?

Except in TVH he stated that he actually loathed Kirk and the other senior staff for some reason.
Whaaaaa?

To flesh out Sarek even more. Why not?

TOS gives me the impression First Contact was about one generation removed maybe that is why not much is known about Vulcans? TNG and ENT retcon a First contact that is over 100, 200 years old so makes the Starfleet of the TOS and TOS movies either incompetent or Vulcans were given a lot of privacy clauses when they joined the Federation.

Exactly. TOS gives the impression that Vulcans are fairly exotic and that little is actually known about them, which doesn't exactly gibe with later developments.

^Perhaps Vulcans were given a lot of privacy clauses and it took a lot of inter species relationships before their secrets became open ones. All those offworlders signing Vulcan Secrets Act before they could be bonded to a Vulcan or something in the mind meld compels them to keep Vulcan secrets?

They should introduce another of Spock's siblings every season until the family has a bakers dozen. Maybe introduce a revamped version of his brother, a Reebok if you will.
