I was never a fan of the Spidey movies but I was always in the minority so seeing this news made me go

Never mind Miley. But Katie Cassidy? Hell yeah! She was very good in Harper's Island, one of my favorite programs of 2009.

He was on the shortlist for the first movie, but didn't want to do an origin story, so they went to Raimi instead. With his Zodiac writer plotting this one, why not? Though it looks like they want to go more of a teen-friendly route this time, so I suppose he probablt doesn't fit the bill.
My prediction earlier in this thread was of a Batman Forever type reboot, rather than in the Begins mould. New director, cast, new tone, but not a total re-telling of the origin. I seem to have been mostly right, but we'll have to wait and see how far they re-tell the origin; I suspect at most we'll get a flashback, a la Incredible Hulk, or indeed, Batman Forever. I still hope and suspect that JK Simmons will be back (a la Dench in Casino Royale or Michael Gough and Pat Hingle in BF).
I don't have a problem with this being set in high school, as that's where Spidey's classic tales originated. As has been said, the Spectacular Spider-man cartoon is very good and keeps that setting. I'm 37 but I always think of Spider-man as a young adult or teenager and I think a 30-something Toby was getting too old for the role. I think you can make a Spider-movie with a teen Spidey without it being Twillight.
I'm glad also that the release date has been put back for a year, allowing them to hopefully get it right. By all accounts, the scripts for the Raimi/Maguire version STUNK!!!!

My job has had me on the road so I don't have time to read through all this "reboot" chatter. Sorry if I repeat some thoughts.
My gut is that this is going to be bad. The Spidey reboot is going to be turned into something that "The Hills" and "For the Love of Ray J" crowd can relate or worse Twilight. Watching Peter/MJ do some forlorn swooning will make me nauseous.

I would be all for that, as long as he used the spider part as a metaphor for the predatory nature of the masculine and turned Peter into a date rapist.

I was just reading Drew McWeeney over at HitFix.com, and he suggested Anton Yelchin as Peter.
I didn't see Terminator, but based on Star Trek and Charlie Bartlett... I think he may be kinda perfect for this.

Personally, I'd go see Cameron's adaptation of the phone book. But do we want to wait 12 years for another Spidey movie?

^ True. But as I say, I'm hoping for more of a 'reboot-lite', like they did with Batman Forever, or with the Bond movies (pre-Craig) every time a new Bond took over.
