I love Mask of the Phantasm, by the way. I've been rediscovering it. Shirley Walker's score is just fantastic.

While I liked the three Spider-man movies, I thought there might be trouble with the reported problems with the fourth one. I actually thought (for a moment anyway) if they didn't get this sorted out soon, the studio might decide to say "screw it" and start all over again.

Didn't actually think it would really happen though...

I'm withholding my excitement of Raimi, Maguire, and Dunst not being involved in the next Spider-Man only because I'm worried Sony will go back to the teenage angst of high school. I've had a lot of issues with all three movies (but the villains have been mostly well down, the Green Goblin's costume aside) and I've never been convinced Maguire was Peter Parker or Spider-Man. The less said about Dunst the better.

I'm hoping the best for the next movie but if it's going to be a rush project, then I'm back to worried.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a contingency plan developed in the event Spider-man 4 fell through.

This thing is going to be fast-tracked, IMO...

"Sighs" and he is my favorite super hero (OMD abominations aside). I just hope that this time they stop unmasking him every five minutes. It got so old, why didn't Spidey glue the seals of the mask shut to prevent this?

It's now entirely clear that the folks running Sony couldn't pour piss out of a bucket that had the instructions written on the bottom.

If they are going to rehash Spidey's origins, I hope the filmmakers can constrain themselves to doing the origins during the title sequence ala the Incredible Hulk. It clues people unfamiliar with the origin story in, while not taking up valuable time boring the fans who already know his origins.

It's horrifying to think of Sony doing a Spider-Man origin story film only nine or ten years (I'm now thinking that this will be a 2012 release) after Raimi did it. Holy God, the audience confusion will be incredible.

Huh? Trek XI had a more confusing story in establishing parallel continuities, and the mainstream audience didn't seem to have much trouble with that.

Sony wants a director that will say yes to whatever they demand. Brett Ratner is waiting them to call him.

Oh, no - the movie may now be jinxed. You have used the name of the Ratner.


I'm sorry - I don't see the need for a reboot at this point. It wouldn't be hard to get new actors and a new director following the continuity of the older movies - the problem is getting screenwriters and a director as creative and good at their jobs as the ones from the earlier films. But then again, I didn't why The Incredible Hulk couldn't just be in the same continuity as Hulk.

Any directorial contenders for the new reboot? It appears they've already gotten a writer in James Vanderbilt. EW is reporting that rebooting the series was Sony's intention all along.

They don't need to show a damn origin. Everybody knows it. They just need to maybe do flashbacks or something.
