The Europa also changed a bit between the trailer she first appeared in and the final aired version

Very interesting... New starship mentionned in DSC S01E03

USS Glenn NCC-1030 Same class as the Discovery

Now that annoyed me somewhat.
It seems to have been a relatively last-minute decision to go with the TMP-style markings. Doubly odd, since they started with FJ-style in the Comic-con trailer, then went TOS as they were nearing release, and finally went TMP in the end. I wonder if there were fights in the art department.

The art is being done all over the place, from Los Angeles to Calgary to Toronto to Montréal. I won't be surprised to discover arguments between them.

Interesting, as John Eaves originally said he was going to honor the namesake of that ship by

making the Glenn a Mercury class vessel. So I wonder if Crossfield was gonna be Mercury at that point of production?

Maybe they'll replace it quickly just to keep the Klingons guessing. Sort of like how the Americans renamed ships under construction after ships lost in combat to keep the Japanese guessing as to if they sunk those ships or not.

I remember you mentionning that. When they said the Glenn I thought "AHA! We get to see a Mercury Class" but then they said Sister Ship and I was certainly a bit confused. It's all good though. :)

What's also interesting is that a sister ship has a neighboring registry, not a random one. Basically a first in onscreen Trek, even if a staple of fandom!

So the speculation can start on the exact registry of USS Crossfield now... NCC-1020? NCC-1000? A bit less likely to be NCC-937 or somesuch now.

Gonna see "Context" tonight, hopefully. What did they say to establish the hero ship as "new"? "She's brand new, yessir, brand new!"?

Timo Saloniemi

Cool. But disappointing, in the above sense - now the T'Plana-Hath can theoretically be NCC-1032 and it's all just as chaotic as back in the Okuda days. :( :p

OTOH, we can now say the Crossfield is NCC-1030. p

It's remarkable how the actual exterior design of the ship elicits no comment in-universe. Only the Black Ops interiors attract the attention of civilians and ex-Starfleet alike. Perhaps ships of that design ilk are actually quite commonplace?

Edit: Not just this jury but several others seem to remain on recess considering the registry. Memory Alpha now says NCC-1010, but moments ago it still said NCC-1040.

Not to give it away, but one or two lines are said about Discovery being new.

And the fact takes the commenters by surprise once they are inside the ship. Perhaps they expected something different from the exterior (which they saw in great detail as tractor beams guided them around the ship)?

It most definitely isn't 1010, as the second digit from the right is as broad as the zeroes. I'm voting for 1040, but it could just as well be 1050, 1070 or 1090 for all we know - even the best screencaps are blurry here, and only hint at the "left foot" of the digit being absent.

It's 1040, when she's scuttled, the saucer it lit up momentarily enough to read it.

Looked like 3 to me.

Allegedly the Netflix version is 4K if your computer supports it. Guess we can wait until the show hits the rest of the world for a better capture.

I have watched it several times. I am settling on 1030. It makes the most sense really. The CGI artists would go for the simplest solution - change one number.
