If it somehow was some kind of "troll trailer" than it was pretty brilliant in scaring up a bunch of press (any press is good press?).
Well not against, they just wanted people to talk about the Sonic trailer when they went to see it. They are talking, but not the way they wanted.Wait, they actually pitted this against Pikachu?

Not anymore, blending animation and live-action has worked successfully many times. That’s the major draw of Detective Pikachu, seeing real people in a real world with Pokémon. But the Pokémon look like what we’ve seen for 20 years, just with depth and details. If they were going to do a Sonic movie it should have been in a fully CGI world. Cartoon looking CGI mixes very poorly with live actors. This is a terrible trend they need to end. Let cartoons be cartoons. The combination looks absolutely ****ing hideous.
Well he looks like Mewtwo from the game and anime. In fact, they just look like less detailed drawing of the live-action version. The Sonic designers overthought it and went for realism which erased some of what made Sonic identifiable as Sonic. There’s a right balance with any design work and they screwed up.If creating polar opposites is what they were going for, heh. Some realistic depictions of MewTwo are worse than this Sonic, but DP manages to make him pretty impressive.

Not that I recall. And indeed, his IMDB shows he's had steady work up to now. He just hasn't had much big projects. Indeed, the last movie of his I remember hearing about was Kick-Ass 2, where he turned kind of sanctimonious after filming it trying to condemn the movie as too violent. Ironic that he's now playing a villain.Didn't Jim Carrey retire from acting?
I remember seeing the Star Trek Beyond trailer attached to The Force Awakens. Though it really amused me when the Shazam trailer was attached to Captain Marvel. It's no different from having DC or Marvel movies in front of it's opposite.
Arguably never, usually it's best to get the audience to accept the structure of the characters' world than to spoonfeed and pander by chucking 'em into ours.
I don't know it looks like it worked pretty well in Detective Pikachu, and it's worked out pretty well in things like Star Wars, the MCU, Lord of the Rings, ect.If they were going to do a Sonic movie it should have been in a fully CGI world. Cartoon looking CGI mixes very poorly with live actors. This is a terrible trend they need to end. Let cartoons be cartoons. The combination looks absolutely ****ing hideous.
Or it could be another Street Fighter and Super Mario Brothers where no one wants to touch the IP with a ten foot pole. This is going to be released finally, after years of labour and headaches for Paramount, they'll take the financial loss, and give the rights back. Someday we'll get a proper animated CGI movie...after everyone forgets about this thing.
Well, this movie will teach them about priorities. If nothing else it’s good news for Trek fans. Once this movie bombs they’ll beg Chris and Chris to come back to make Star Trek 4. Oh and QT, have all the money for your movie too!Paramount: Cancel Star Trek 4, the real money is in reimagining Sonic the Hedgehog!

They've released the second trailer, with the much improved redesign of Sonic.
Definitely like this design, a lot better.
