I'm vaguely remembering a novel once read that had a machine that could travel on a strange three-axis system, where X-axis was Space, Y-axis was Time, and Z-Axis was... well, it dropped you in one of an infinite number of fictional universes.
EDIT: Ah, Heinlein's Number of the Beast, to start with.
The Mirror universe doesn't fit what should happen in a parallel timeline...in a real universe. But maybe it's on Star Trek's Z Axis. After all, the Prime Timeline is all in Benny Russell's head...
What would be taking place on the positive axis if the mirror universe is taking place along the negative axis?
Various universes where things turned out “better” than in the Prime timeline? Say, the Khan-era Augments AREN’T megalomaniacs, but instead uplifters, humanity advances rather than suffering through WWIII, and first contact with everybody from the Vulcans (somewhere in deep space instead of on Earth) on through the Klingons ends up going very differently... butterflies. What would be taking place on the positive axis if the mirror universe is taking place along the negative axis?

You can be infinite, but still limited. For example, the list of only even numbers will never include 3.It's an infinite multiverse. Literally anything is possible.
Perhaps there is a type of quantum entanglement involved between the universe?

A “real” parallel universe, one following logical rules, would spin off a single point of divergence and only get farther from the “original” universe as time passes. Due to exactly how unlikely it is that a specific sperm cell fertilizes an egg cell, anything even slightly different very quickly snowballs into change. Very shortly, no one born in that timeline would be the same person that they were/would have been in the “original.”Not sure I really understand .... what makes the Mirror Universe more 'fictional' than the Prime Universe? Yes, the Terran Empire is larger than life, but so are some Prime Unverse species ....
As long as they are not living together.
