"I am the beginning... the end... the one who is many."
That was a very good effect in it's day, and still looks pretty decent now.

In terms of dramatic impact, the first one that comes to mind is the cloaked Klingon ship materializing in front of the whalers in The Voyage Home. That's a great scene.
If we're talking First Contact, one of the best effects shots in that movie, and therefore the original 10 movies has to be the big pull-back at the beginning, that really was excellent.
I thought the topic here was a single shot, not a sequence.
To me it's the "beat Dykstra" shot at the end of TMP, where the Enterprise passes over the camera, which pivots around to follow her as she moves away and then blasts off into warp drive.
That shot is the "Dykstra" shot that the "beat Dykstra" shot was meant to top.I thought the topic here was a single shot, not a sequence.

Similarly, while I don't think it's the single best shot, I still love the introductory pass over of the Amar in TMP.
Then again, TMP sometimes feels like one interminable sfx shot![]()
Agree - the fleet battle and hull walk were very good but that beginning was epic. First Contact really did blow it's wad early in the film didn't it?

I'm partial to the opening shot of the Kelvin.

I know the technology and financial resources are different, but the Abrams films are just chock full of one impressive effects scene after another.

I'm sure I have better examples, but one that shoots out for me is the Enterprise simply flying from one side of the screen to the other on impulse to Khitomer.
Probably the best shot since the TMP Enterprise reveal to really indicate what a damned big ship we're looking at. The actual Enterprise reveal in 2009 isn't even as impressive.I'm partial to the opening shot of the Kelvin.
It may not be the best movie, but I loved seeing the E-E ramming the Scimitar
