Finished 'The Black Butterfly' today, which was excellent, and am going back to finish 'Flashman' as I wait for 'Singular Destiny' to reach these shores.

Just finished John Birmingham's "Without Warning".

Some type of energy wave wiped out most of the continental United States, leaving only Alaska, Hawaii, and the Seattle, Washington area untouched, on the eve of the 2003 invasion of Iraq.

The world attempts to deal with the vanishing of America. The jihadists claim it was an act of Allah, and Iraq and Iran prepare to invade Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, forcing the coalition forces in place to pre-empt that attack. Israel goes nuclear. France descends into anarchy. Great Britain closes its borders and begins to expel citizens of Middle Eastern descent. The ten million or so Americans out of the country at the time of the wave all begin repatriating to safe areas in Operation Uplift; one gathering point for refugees is Guantanamo Bay, which was a part of Cuba which survived the wave...but is attacked by Venezuela. And what is left of the United States tries to figure out where in the hell we go from here.

First book in a three-book trilogy. If you enjoyed the Weapons of Choice trilogy, you will also dig this one.

I absolutely loved "Weapons of Choice", the best books I've read last year. I'm definitely going to get this one, that summary sounds damn entertaining.

Bones by Jonathan Kellerman. I am waiting to find a copy of Mere Anarchy, so that should be next.

In an effort to save some money, I've been digging through my chest of books. So far I've read:

SW: The Hutt Gambit
SW: Rebel Dawn
Gateways: Demons of Air and Darkness
Doom: Hell on Earth
Doom: Infernal Sky
(both guilty pleasures of mine. I know they're not good.)

and I'm working on:

Gateways: Doors into Chaos

I finished Lady Audley's Secret yesterday, read all of Essential Killraven, Vol. 1 yesterday and today (more War of the Worlds research), and got about halfway through Heinlein's Friday on the plane today.

Since the last time I posted I have read six Sherlock Holmes stories: The Adventure of the Speckled Band, The Adventure of the Engineer’s Thumb, The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor, The Adventure of the Beryl Coronet, The Adventure of the Copper Beeches, and Silver Blaze.

I have also read A Singular Destiny, The Art of the Impossible, the SCE: Miracle Workers collection, IKS Gorkon: Honor Bound, and Supernatural: Bone Key. I am now reading The Mirror-Scaled Serpent. By some strange coincidence, all but one novel (Interphase, Part II) was (co)written by KRAD.

I brought the Shatnerverse book Dark Victory to read on the train this morning. It was so bad that I actually elected to stare at the roof for fifteen minutes rather than continue reading.

Though I'm still working my way through Friday, I took some time out yesterday to read The War of the Wenuses, a contemporary (1898) parody of The War of the Worlds by C. L. Graves and E. V. Lucas, which was suitably hilarious.

Now that I've finished the abysmal Singular Destiny, I've just begun reading Dark Hallows by Brian Keene.

I'm reading Voice of the Gods by Trudi Canavan, the last book in the Age of the Five trilogy; Our very own Andy McDermott's The Tomb of Hercules; and Incident at Arbuk by John Greggory Betancourt.

I'm enjoying all three thus far.

I just finished reading Midnight in Madrid by Noel Hynd. I'm waiting for my copy of Mere Anarchy to come this week.

Faerie Lord the last book in the series by Herbie Brennen. As soon as I am done I'll be reading the Honor Harrington series by David Webber.

Have put Flashman on hold again as I got A Singular Destiny today. Sort of enjoying the recession as books have dropped by €2 in Dublin, or a saving of 20%.
