About halfway through The Shining. Finally got around to reading it, after all these years. Given my own family background, reading this one is partly-traumatic and partly-cathartic. I'm hoping it balances out on the latter side when I'm finished...

A friend sent me a version of "Let it Snow" which was a bit 'delightful' I guess. I finished "Chainmail" by Carey then read "Doors into Chaos" by Greenberger and am now halfway through "Demons of Air and Darkness" by DeCandido. I noticed that the latter two books were published at the eventful time of September 2001.
As for Great Political Thinkers topics: I read "The Labour Party in Perspective" by Attlee (1937) as well as "Socialism and Nationalisation" by Gaitskell and an article "Philosophy of the British Labor Government" by A. D. (Lord) Lindsay from a collection. Now reading "The Modern Democratic State" also by A. D. Lindsay (1962).
Finished reading the complete Plato (true, dubious, and false). I am discovering different "bookform readings" as they come in many formats now. Have the current KRAD book as e-reader friendly and as hardcopy (Demons of Air and Darkness, 2001).
Currently starting to go through Season 3 of "Enterprise" and I see that it seems to be much about the "Xindi" which shall be yet another polyxenic civilization.
Shall look for Michael Harrington books. My local university had one in the catalogue but was missing from the shelf. I put in a trace. I got the other book from the library and hope to read it soon.

Finally started The Poisoned Chalice by James Swallow. Love me some Titan!!!
Finishing up Ragnarok, Voyager #3. Man, this is one of the dumbest Trek books I've read and I doubt it's going to get better in the final 30 pages. It's like the crew is having a contest to see who is can make the worst decisions and Janeway is going to win in a walk.
I'm kinda sorta thinking I want to finish up the old numbered Voyager books in 2014, I've got 14 to go after this, but it's going to be tough. I've read 1-3,9,19-21. #9, the fury book, was surprisingly entertaining and L.A. Graf did a good job with #1, the novelization of the pilot, but I haven't liked the rest. The only one I'm looking forward to is the Greg Cox novel so I'm saving that for last as my reward for making it through these.

That is sad. Not too long ago, I found a copy of "Ragnarok" and later "Echoes" in my desire to prepare for reading the Voyager books. I also must read a bit more of DS9 and perhaps begin SCE.

i've decided to do a re-reading of all the 24th century post-nemesis stuff. But i actually started with the "A Time to,,," series. Currently on "Sow." i also just started up a chronological reading of star wars, beginning with Darth Plaguies. currently on Cloak of Deception. I'm keeping it to just the adult novels. i want to enjoy them one last time, before the sequel trilogy forever alters my view of the EU.

^Nice review. One thing: The Wounded Sky is a lot more than reminiscent of "Where No One Has Gone Before" -- it's the direct basis for the episode. Duane and Michael Reaves's original script draft was much closer to the novel, but it was changed enormously in rewrites, with only one or two of their lines remaining in the final episode.
If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I read it), Here There Be Monsters is more of an SCE story than a Gateways story, so if you want to read SCE later, I would just hold it off until then. The Gateways set off the events of the novella, but it doesn't really tie into the events of the rest of the miniseries.
All the Gateways stories are more strongly tied to their individual series than to one another. That's the way most Trek-novel crossovers are structured, so that each one works primarily as part of its own series, with the interconnections being secondary.
Currently reading all the Marvel Cinematic Universe comics, since I got one month of Marvel Comic Unlimited for Christmas. Really liking the Captain America prequel comic right now.

Still ploughing through (and loving) the Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and Fire novels. About 80% through the fourth book (A Storm Of Swords part 2) so am just over half way through what has been published so far.
Haven't even had the urge to pick up any Treklit recently. I think it's a combination of burnout caused by the recent TOS marathon and just enjoying something really different.
