I'm currently reading two books at the moment!

1. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Operation Barracuda by Raymond Benson (Alias-David Michaels).

2. DS9: The Search by Diane Carey.

No disrespect to Carey, but here metaphors in that novel are laughable. ("The Defiant didn't exactly have the water-lily elegance of starships that had come before her, but then again, she wasn't meant for a casual swim.") Still not a bad read, though

I got through The Castle of Otranto over yesterday and today. It's nice and short, which is good because it's also really not all that great. I mean I know it's the first Gothic novel, but still. Next up on the 100 Great Novels list is Pride And Prejudice.

I also want to read some Dickens, seeing as how it's the bicentennial of his birth this year, and since I got the latest biography by Claire Tomalin. I'm thinking of Nicholas Nickleby, Dombey And Son, and Our Mutual Friend (this isn't counting all the ones I've already read).

Finished up Rise Like Lions last night, absolutely LOVED it. Starting Star Wars: Republic Commando: Hard Contact by Karen Traviss today. On deck is Roads Not Taken: Tales of Alternate History (edited by Gardner Dozois and Stanley Schmidt) which I got for Christmas.

I'm also in the middle of Blankets, a graphic novel by Craig Thompson. It was also a Christmas present from a friend of mine who loves comics. I've never read any of Craig Thompson's work before, but I'm really loving it.

Star Wars: Republic Commando: Hard Contact [/I]by Karen Traviss today.

I hope you enjoy it, all 4 of her Republic Commando novels were awesome, and the followup 501st was great but I wouldnt recommend reading that unless your ok with never getting a finished story.

When Lucas incorporated the Mandalorian culture into his Clone Wars cartoon series, it relegated everything she had written into a what if universe of star wars.

She decided that if that was the case she would stop and write no more so 501st which was book 1 of 3 and has some killer cliffhangers in it, is left open ended.

I thought they got a new author who was going to be continuing the series either this year or next?

I hadnt heard that, if its true I hope its someone that swings by and picks up her notebook because Im sure she had it all outlined. She is a terrific author who created an amazing culture in the Mandalorians.

Ironically when Clone Wars killed her book series she started writing books about the Clone Wars characters lol.

If you cant beat them join them I guess.

Star Wars Allegiance is awesome and do yourself a favor and have a copy of Zahn's "Choices of One" handy to jump right into after Allegiance.
