So What Are you Reading?: Generations

AMAZING FANTASY #1000 -- celebrating Spider-Man's 60th anniversary.

With a new, semi-autobiographical story by Neil Gaiman no less.

I saw that in the comic shop the other day. Looks interesting, but I have to admit that “Amazing Fantasy #1000” title really makes my eye twitch. (Dang, I somehow missed the previous nine hundred and eighty something issues!)

Just got done listening to Star Trek: Picard: No Man’s Land (2022) full cast audio drama (Kirsten Beyer and Mike Johnson, performed by Michelle Hurd and Jeri Ryan and a number of other actors. (Will post rest of review in specific thread here.)

Whatever my book club is reading with some other books thrown in. This month is Pride and Prejudice. And since the Picard book that I started went on sale for 99 cents, I'm finishing it off. Non-fiction wise, I'm reading Investing Amid Lower Expected Returns. Next up will be Dracula for Halloween and the first Slow Horses book. This series is really good on Apple TV.

@youngtrek , just a friendly reminder to please use multi-quote when replying to multiple posts. We are not supposed to post more than twice in a row. Thank you.

Sorry. I didn’t realize that. I was responding to them as I made my way down the messages in the thread. I’m not sure how to do that multi-quote thing, though.

Tap the +Quote button next to each post you want to quote. Once you have two or more, there is an Insert Quotes button in the reply area.

No worries. The multi-quote button ("+ Quote") is just to the left of the reply button. If you click that on a post as you go through the thread, it will add that post to your multi-quote. Then when you get to the end, if you have something in multi-quote, you will see a new button under the text entry box on the left side, labelled "Insert Quotes". If you click that, it will give you a pop-up with all your multi-quote messages. You can move the order by dragging them, or click remove on any you no longer want to reply to. When you're done, just click the "Quote These Messages" button, and the software will put them in the text box with the appropriate tags.

Hope this helps!

ETA: @Smiley was a little faster than me! :)

Interesting. I recall Trump or one of our own state politicians being in Brandon last year for something and the phrase coming out of that visit.

Ok, I see now what it was that confused me. DeSantis had a bill signing here last November and people were chanting “Let’s go Brandon!” at that. I didn’t read it closely enough at the time to realize that it was an already established thing by that point. (I do feel a bit better now, though.) :)

Cool. We’ve got those in my library media center collection (I’m a high school media specialist). Have you already read the first one, Girls with Sharp Sticks? (The series goes Girls with Sharp Sticks, Girls with Razor Hearts, Girls with Rebel Souls.)

—David Young

Yes (and thought it was ok.) I haven't read Rebel Souls yet though.

Some of the reviews have been a bit iffy, but I liked the first and second to carry on.

KILLING THE SHADOWS by Val McDermid.

A serial killer is stalking thriller writers, recreating scenes from their novels. How could I resist a premise like that?

I finished a reread of Kahless yesterday. If you're going to pick one book about Klingons to read, then this is definitely one to consider, especially if you are a TNG fan.

Yeah, DeSantis picked Brandon to sign the bill in because of the slogan. (A very mature and thoughtful man, our governor.)

I'm reading the novelization of "Voyager's" pilot "Caretaker." It was clearly written before the episode was actually filmed, and maybe even fully casted. So there are some pretty amusing differences between this version of the story and the actual episode.

Not to mention some...interesting descriptions of Tuvok and Harry Kim.

Interesting. Sounds a bit like the basic plot of the pilot episode of “Castle”, doesn’t it?

Finished Tom Kelly's Lunar Lander. Learned a lot more about the development of the LM than I knew. Although I knew enough to spot some errors that any good copy-editor who had a working knowledge of Apollo (or in one case, of Amtrak!) should have caught.

Back to The Sound and the Furry: The Complete Hoka Stories.

Just read the one with a Hoka society modeling itself after Victorian England, complete with a Hoka Sherlock Holmes, who manages to apprehend a drug kingpin without breaking character.

I find that I'm struck (just as I am with "Doc" Smith) by the amount of smoking going on. And by the degree to which foul language is left to the imagination ("he said something that sounded like 'desert'").
