So What Are you Reading?: Generations

I can't ever read books one at a time, but instead have several going simultaneously. Currently, I'm reading The Long Mirage by David R. George III, which I'm finding to be a mixed bag, Ron Chernow's Washington: A Life, which is excellent, and re-reading Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade by Diana Gabaldon, which is charming. Once I finish BoB, which will probably be tonight, I'll start Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express.

I pre-ordered David Mack's Control, so it's sitting in my Kindle app, making me feel weirdly guilty for not having started it yet, but my brain just goes, "ew." It's no reflection on the author - I've enjoyed every Mack book I've read - but I dunno, I don't think I could take Section 31 right now.

I gave up buying books for Lent so now I'm doing catch up. Right now I'm in the middle of Headlong Flight (pretty good so far) with Latter Fire waiting in the Wings.

having consumed all of the unabridged Star Trek Audiobooks, I am reading/listening to The Stand.

I'm reading Backstage at the Lincoln Assasination by Thomas A.Bogar. It's fascinating look at the backstory of the actors who worked with John Wilkes Booth who were at Ford's theater and what happened to them before and after Abraham Lincoln was killed.

I finished The Expanse: Caliban's War by James S.A. Corey.
I'm currently reading Star Trek: Section 31: Control by David Mack.

FASHION BEAST by Alan Moore & Facundo Percio

This is a comics version of an unmade script that Moore wrote from a story by Malcolm McLaren in 1985, basically their take on Beauty And The Beast. It's set in a city where the fashion houses rule the impoverished populace, there's a mysterious designer, a girl needing a job, a pair of Ugly Sisters of sorts.... I know bugger all about the fashion biz, but it definitely strikes a chord with the way people follow designer labels and the cult of celebrity. It's definitely good, and the art by Percio is great. I suspect that, if made as a movie in 1985, it would have been really, really shit, and if made as a movie now it would probably be pretty damn good (albeit condemned by Moore as propaganda of the evil Military/Entertainment Complex.) Definitely worth seeking out this graphic novel collection from Avatar Press (collecting the 10-issue series).

Finished Ghost Recon:Choke Point by Peter Telep. Now giving the NCIS New Orleans novel by Jeff Mariotte a go.

After than, I may make a start on The Expanse series.

Star Trek Vanguard - Declassified - The ruins of noble men
(Wish someone had the finances to produce the complete series on television)
