Re-reading Best Destiny. Then I'm going to dig out that SCE novella, The Art of the Deal (it seems somehow appropriate that this was the title of the novella in which Captain Gold called somebody a mamzer, given that it's also the title of a book by a certain presidential candidate I would not hesitate to describe as a mamzer).
About one third into Nomad by James Swallow. Cracking read so far.
I'm still reading The City of Mirrors. I hope to finish it in the next day or two.
I just finished John Scalzi's Redshirts. I put this off for a long tome, assuming that it would be one cheap red shirt based gag after another. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I read it as an excellent commentary on putting more thought into storytelling, but beyond that it was just a great story. It reminded me of Red Dwarf: Back to Earth, at least in the meta-humor and seeking out the writers department.

Going back and reading Hollow Men by Una McCormack. And it gave me a good excuse to rewatch In the Pale Moonlight.
I finished Star Trek: The Original Series: The Latter Fire by James Swallow

Having finished The Art of the Deal (the SCE novella, NOT Donald Trump's love letter to his own greed and narcissism) and Creative Couplings (it had been so long, I'd forgotten how it turned out, and was expecting the young couple to get frustrated with their parents, and elope), I'm now not quite a third of the way through Barbara Boxer's memoir, The Art of Tough.
I reread Life after Life by Kate Atkinson and Replay by Ken, both personal favorites. I then went on to read Mr Mercedes by Stephen King. It was a good novel, but nothing particularly outstanding. I'm still interested in reading the sequels. Then I tackled Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuel. This one was a real page turner and it there are going to be more books in this series too, so I gotta read those.
Beacon 23 by Hugh Howey was next. It clocks in at under 200 pages. It's pretty engaging and I felt sorry for a guy who has to spend most of his time alone in a darker corner of space. I need to finish up Wool now that I think about it...
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline I listened to on audibook. Read by Wil Wheaton... and he's a damn good reader. A lot of audibooks are annoying but he sounded very natural. I had been putting off reading this because I was trying to be a hipster and not like it, but it's so much fun.
I am currently about halfway through a God in Ruins by Kate Atkinson. It's a companion novel to Life After Life and equally as depressing in parts.
Also, I just decided to read through the first two Saga of Seven Suns books again so I can read the rest of the series and the new sequel trilogy. I really need to clear off all the books from my list that have been accumulating over the decade.

Trek reading:
One of my reading goals this year was reading 8 out of the 10 SNW books I hadn't read yet. Done. There were usually something like 3 or 4 stories in each book at most I liked. For me the bulk of the rest was just uninspiring spin wheel continuity porn. And if I ever have to read another story about crew members as children, children of crew members or alien children meeting crew members on away missions it will be too soon.
I also finished up the books from 2015 I hadn't read yet. The Autobiography of James T Kirk won for me because of the way it handled The Final Frontier. I was confused at first but after I realized what was going on I found it very funny. Child of Two Worlds was the last of the 2015 books I read and I liked it a lot. My favorite book from last year was Takedown.
Recently read Non-Trek:
Abaddon's Gate - The 3rd book in the expanse series. I love this series and this book. They seem to be getting better.
I Am Providence - I got an ARC of this upcoming book by Nick Mamatas. I'm a fan of this writer who is moving from SF to mysteries so of course this murder mystery is set at a Lovecraft convention, The Summer Tentacular, where a big chunk of the book is from the perspective of the murder victim after he's died and sent to the morgue. Pretty funny stuff.
The Geek Feminist Revolution by Kameron Hurley - Essays on writing, fandom, misogyny in fandom, etc. The essay that sticks with me the most was about coming down with an auto immune disease that destroyed her pancreas and how she struggled to keep jobs because she needed the insurance because if she lost her insurance she wouldn't be able to get it back because she had a pre-existing condition and how Obamacare forcing insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions basically saved her life. Pretty powerful stuff.

You may want to check out Jeffrey Lang's TNG: The Light Fantastic. It's pretty much a sequel to this...or at least it's the next Data adventure after Cold Equations.I just finished Star Trek Cold Equations book 3 The body electric by David Mack. I really enjoyed reading the Data miniseries again. I hope when they have the convention with the Star trek authors there will be news about a new Data novel .
I started the DSN relaunch novels last year. I am trying to read them in order. At the moment on 'World's ST DSN Vol 1- Andor and Cardassia'
