But does it feel like half the season has gone by already?

To me, I can't believe we are at episode 10 as of this Friday, it just doesn't feel like that many episodes have aired, they have flown by to me. Or maybe it is just that it doesn't feel like there is much progress or much happening each episode, so it doesn't feel like we've gotten very far. Either way, to me, I can't believe we are half way into the first season already, it just doesn't feel like 9-10 episodes have aired, know what I mean?

It feels to me like not that much has happened, really. They've solved a few immediate resource issues, but other than that they've focused on the Earth stuff.

Come to think of it, they've focused on the Earthside drama a lot more than the shipboard drama. Something seems off about that, to me.

I'm just not sure guys. I've never watched Stargate before. I've seen the movie, many times... but I've never watched the series - any of them. I was so stuck on BSG that I needed a Sci-Fi fix, and a co-worker suggested I check out SGU. So I did, and I REALLY liked the first episode... enjoyed the second and third... and then things kinda got... weird. They got really good again with "Time" but then this last episode... yeah, I dunno. I talked to the co-worker about the episode, and the fact I hadn't seen any other SG aside from the movies, and he suggested I go start watching SG1 and SGA and check back in with SGU after I finish SG1 and a chunk of SGA. I'm just not sure... maybe it's the fact I'm unfamiliar with the canon, but I'm just quickly getting bored with SGU... I wish they'd do more with the ship, technology, and other planets, aside from the soap opera that they seem to be focusing on!

Note, ep 10 airs next Friday, since this is Thanksgiving weekend, and Syfy will be airing movies...
The serialized nature of the series, does indeed, give one a halfway thru already? vibe. Only a few weeks in show have gone by, with very little really happening. Search for some air, search for water. water is bad-let's time travel, lights are out, dive thru a sun, and fire the weapons...that's about all the major events over 9 episodes...

. . . and it still sucks. The show should have picked up by now. It should have gotten exciting. It should have taken its rightful place as the spiritual successor to BSG. I mean, it has the look, the basic ingredients.

If they are going to keep those frakking stones (which I hate) then maybe they can switch bodies with the writers from BSG and Fringe and start making the episodes more enjoyable.

after the great pilot [SG does great pilot eps] and Light and Time the rest of the early season has been very overly melo-dramatic and "soapy" i will give it till the end of the first series, but i have said in other forums; by this time in SG1 and SGA we have had very standout episodes and im hoping so hoping for this show to WOW me in the second half because the first half has been very forgettable and some parts tasteless...Im a Gater im holding out hope

Watching unlikeable bland characters argue every single episode...

is not interesting television, and it certainly isn't interesting Stargate.

Air 3, Light and maybe Frozen were good interesting episodes. The rest has been utter shite. The ratings will be going downhill any day now (if they haven't been already) and this show, if it doesn't change will get cancelled at the end of the second season, if it even lasts that long.

I think the season has gone by pretty quickly. I've enjoyed the show but do agree it needs to pick up the pace a little bit.

But if they go the screaming/crying/drunk fighting/camera shaking all the goddamned time route, I'll be tuning out fairly quickly.

According to Tv Guide they will be introducing some ('very cool', according to the producers) aliens as bad guy's (not sure if there will be re-occuring or just one off). Not that I'm necessarily for, this but there needs to something to liven up the ship-side part of the show. BSG at least had Cylons and some cool space battles from time to time, SGU can use a little of that as well.

The dark elements worked fine for BSG, in my opinion. Their homes had been destroyed. Billions were dead. It's kind of understandable that they'd not be in the best shape, mentally.

The people here, however, still have regular contact with Earth, are quickly solving their material problems, and other than being geographically isolated, things aren't that bad for them. They aren't under constant threat, at least. They are certainly under a lot of stress, but they don't exactly have a BSG-level apocalypse hanging over their heads.

Which is why I already ditched the show.

The series had hope, but it's clear they just want to do more earth based bullshit. The only time they should do Earth based bullshit is if the Stargate ever becomes public.

The show is called Stargate yet they never really seem to use the damn thing to go exploring the universe!

I just get that Deep Space Nine vibe. For me, DS9 started out kind of "enh" and then ramped up with a gradual change of direction that started in season two and flowed into the Dominion War.

DS9 started out with a lot more similarities to TNG, and slowly shifted to darker, serial storytelling with less reliance on established characters (save Worf).

SGU has started with darker, more serial storytelling (and a much greater focus on melodrama). But it's also relied fairly often on established characters (O'Neill, Carter, Dr. Lee, Daniel Jackson...and the big three are all slated to return at least once more this season).

Some similarities there, some differences.

I'm not sure the writers are going to change the way they've been doing business. They've never been greatly responsive to fan outcry, and the ratings have been okay. Whatever happens next will likely be dicated by the SyFy Channel and/or MGM, I would imagine.

The ratings have been rebounding ever since Earth. And it's not accurate to say they don't listen to the fans, they'd more likely listen to the posters on GateWorld of Joe Mallozzi's blog. It was fan outcry that got Anise removed from the show though, so they do listen, it's still their shows though and they really can't comply with the wishes of the fans all of the time.

I can say, Yes, watch ALL of SG1, and ALL of Atlantis. This new series does fall back on knowledge of former series to fill in gaps.
