So Streetfighter IV looks pretty darn good.

And even then, I have no idea if I'll ever find a perfect controller to use with the game. :(

Have you ever thought of making your own. All you need are some decent soldering skills, a cheap PS2 controller to disembowel, an enclosure, and a good 8-point stick and six buttons.

It's really not that hard and there are FAQs/HOWTOs galore on the subject out there.

If you want a gamepad, there's really nothing better than one of those Sega Saturn USB pads. I guess they've been selling like crazy on ebay this week. I have two and it's almost temping enough to sell one.

Honestly, I'm afraid of soldering. I ordered a new game to do a minor mod on the Hori stick that I have and hopefully that will help me out... but for the time being, I'm using the admittedly decent 360 analog stick.

The only real problem with playing on a pad is that you can't press three buttons at the same time, so you have to assign that to another button.

If I had to have a pad, my ideal pad would have the full circular motion of the 360 analog stick on the left, six face buttons and then two shoulder buttons on the right side - one for three punches and one for three kicks.

I have a MadCatz pad on order, but I have a feeling that it's not going to be the best solution either.

Have you seen these? I understand people are buying them up as a cheap alternative. I'm told they do work w/ a 360. (Though I don't know, myself.) And they do seem to fit your needs. But I can't vouch for their quality or anything.

BTW: Is that what your avatar is supposed to be, The Exile and Atton? I've always wondered what it was. I though it was from an anime or something--I didn't see the lightsabers. :o

Maybe it's because I always use the Asian chick.

I just bought the Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (mouthful?) on PSN. It was $14.99, but basically just has redrawn HD graphics and rescored music... It's FANTASTIC.

After comparing the reviews on the two games, I figured this would be better value for my money.

I really want to get it when it comes out on PC, but I don't have a gamepad. Meaning a $40 PC purchase will turn into a (minimum) $60 purchase, with pad.

I know my console bretheren are used to those prices, but that was a pain my PC-and-handheld playing ass hoped it would not have to feel.

I've been enjoying SF4 for the most part (though I absolutely hate Seth - he's a cheap bastard with a bagful of near-inescapable super/ultra moves), but playing online just depresses me because I know that unlike a game like CoD4, where even though I'm not the greatest player I can still usually hold my own and have fun, I'm never, ever going to stand a chance against the freaks who can string together 20-hit combos and finish with an ultra every time - I can't even pull off a super, never mind an ultra! Unfortunately, they seem to be 90% of the other players. (The highest number of Battle Points I've ever had was 64, and I'm now down to 12. The last guy I played had almost 600 - and this was in a match that was supposedly matched to my skill level. :( )

It definitely looks close. I'd still kind of want two independent buttons on the right shoulder, but one would work on a pinch.
I've heard that MS did something funny with the USB to make it so that it doesn't accept standard devices though... otherwise I'm sure everyone would be using Saturn pads on the 360 as well. :)

And, yep, that's Exile and Atton. The person who drew the pic assumed the Exile was a blonde chick. And hey, why not?

If anyone is looking to play some no pressure matches, I'm firehawk1234 on 360 and PS3. Yep, I double dipped, but I have no idea when my PS3 copy will arrive.

Hello. Were you the person I played with last night on the PS3 network? Seriously, I had "beginner's luck" and was able to beat a couple of players using Cammy (the British gal). Then later on, I got my butt handed to me by a guy who was light-years better ... I gots defeated FIVE times out of five. :o

I'm liking the game so far. I've managed to unlock six additional characters (except Gouki, Gouken, and Seth). I enjoy watching CPU vs. CPU (advanced level) as much as playing Arcade Mode. ;)

I'm trying out non Ken-Ryu-Akuma characters because... well, that's the safe option. The first ranked match I played I got pretty much owned by a Ken player. I couldn't even hit him in the first round. :p

Trying to play this on a 360 controller sucks balls. I played this for two hours in both arcade and training modes. Screw that noise. If I landed a Hadouken, it was by pure luck, and forget trying to get Guile's sonic boom.

Anyway, I handed it off to a co-worker of mine while I took a crack at Spider-Man: Web of Shadows (AWESOOOOOME!). He's played it for at least five hours and he's having the same problems as I am - he can't do the sonic boom, and any of Blanka's moves just aren't happening.

I think Capcom is forcing us 360 users to go off and buy the arcade stick, because I have a feeling that it's going to be the only way to play this game and actually get anywhere.

The analog stick is great for QCF movements though. That's probably the only thing you can really play unfortunately.

On the flip side, it's terrible for DPs because it's so small and thus inaccurate.

Actually, while on the topic, I was wondering are Zangy's moves, Cammy's Spinning knuckle, etc the original sequences, or are they the same nurfed, noob friendly ones they were in HD Remix?

Those frickin' button combos don't work for me half the time, especially with the directional arrows, so I use the left Joystick on my Sixaxis. (Oh, well, maybe I'm doing it wrong.)

It's a rental. It's a fun party game. But the single player is too hard at times and there's not a whole lot of depth or dimension to it. It's not like a Tecmo game where there's millions of moves for each character you have to memorize if you want to be good. Every character has about 10 moves and that's it. Which is good if you don't want a game you're going to be playing a lot. The EX+Alpha games felt more 3D though. This feels like an old Street Fighter game with better visuals. Which is what they were going for and isn't a bad thing. But it's not something you want to buy and invest a lot of time in, unless you really love Street Fighter.

Well some of us really like Street Fighter. ;)

Though I do agree this game does lack a little depth. The were obviously going for the nostalgia effect with the Thirty-Somethings. But, I would argue it isn't as simplistic as you seem to imply.

Go watch some matches of advanced players. Or even as you say, it seems "too hard" for novices. But that's because they are ignorant of the full capabilities of the system. Though, I think the crappy tutorial is mostly to blame here.

But, there really is a lot to it. It isn't just a button masher with a few button-combo moves thrown in--like, say, Mortal Combat. There are 100s of different combos for each character; knowing what type of punch or kick to use when; knowing the effect of certain throws in certain situations, being able to induce stun, effectively using dash to dodge attacks, the proper use of supers and ultimas, etc. Once you learn those things, playing others online or even the AI on the harder settings becomes an addictive blast.

Non the less, it's still a backwards step from Third Strike which was superior in ever way and, IMHO, the most complex 2D fighter ever made.

I honestly can't remember. Cammy's spinning knuckle is half backwards circle and Zangief's throw is full backwards circle.

Although I have very little prior experience playing this game, I did buy it (used my EB Games card loaded with store credit I got from previous games I traded in) simply because I'd like to get more into SF4. It still can be fun to play in a nostalgic kind of way, and if you're comfortable enough with the controls, you'll get more out of it. A co-worker and I were just talking about this game, and he said he's going to get the special control pad in place of the PS3 controller.
