So Like 20" of snow by Saturday afternoon

OK. I am a little jealous. We got nothing here, just rain and more rain. :( I was hoping for a little something.

With the two hours of some of the heaviest snow we are supposed to get we have a grand total of!!!!!

*drums*

Zero inches!!!!!

It snowed here last thursday all day and last night...
Up north in Groningen and Friesland it snowed longer and more...

We got some nice blizzard action going on here. Welcome to Hancock Street:

Wow, that looks so European. At least its flat there. I see they still like to use glass front doors to the home. Not very energy efficient. The bride and I froze when we lived in the UK, due to the lack of insulation in the home (caravan) we lived in.

supposed to snow again this morning at 10am and its flurrying right now. Time to take the bride to work at the book store. 4wd is nice when you need it.

Had no choice but to get out there early and shovel since my cat had a very full bladder. Snow poured in the house from the drifts and he got scared so I had to create a path across the deck and down the steps for his royal highness  But it's still a blizzard out there so that means a redo later on. We can't see too well out our windows because they are all covered in a layer of icy snow. Who cares.. its Sunday and all our bladders are empty

I put a metal roof on about 4 years ago and we have not had a big snow like this since then. That is why I am kind of freaked out at how the snow is doing as it oozes down the roof. Most people around here have regular asphalt shingle roofs and the snow stays pretty much stuck until it melts away. Some more pictures of the front of the house and the snow hanging off. It really looks Christmasy like that.

The storm of a lifetime! The storm to end all storms! The storm that was supposed to miss us 4 days ago and dump 10-20 inches of snow yesterday.

Grand total.....

two whole inches!

Fucking cult weather fuckers. About 25 miles away probably got 6-8.

No litterbox?

So, um, I thought I might shovel my car out. Then I saw this:

That's my car in front. And behind where I'm standing is at least a 3-foot wall of compacted snow from the plows. I don't think I'm getting out for a while.

Litterbox? Shimmy and I have an understanding: he doesn't crap in my house and I don't crap in his

Just spent the last few hours digging out. Everything hurts.

Everything

humbug, get out there and shovel that little spit of snow

Hey now, I'm from Maryland, not Buffalo. That's way beyond my little trunk shovel's capacity. And my car has no business on the roads right now anyway. And I don't have to go to work tomorrow if I don't want to. So screw it. :techman:

I didn't have a sufficient shovel before yesterday either, even though I'm from New England and really should have known better.

Fortunately, I live next a mall and BJs had a few snow shovels left.

I dug my car out (for the second time) this morning, relocating the 3-foot plow embankment elsewhere. Somewhat behind some other poor guy's car, somewhat in more useful places.

I managed to drive to the Fair Oaks Mall again, and this time they were open so I got my Christmas shopping done. I have to say----still not impressed with the road services around here. There are entire roads which still have several inches of mush on them, and the occasional patches of pavement are infrequent and mostly just serve to bounce the car around when you hit one.

Incompetently distributed road salt, most likely. And still almost no signs of sand. My next car needs to have 4-wheel-drive.

Despite spinning my wheels a few times and occasionally drifting in a direction other than where the wheels were pointed, I managed to get there and back without incident. I wouldn't recommend driving if you don't have to just yet.

This morning, I ventured out of the condo for the first time since Friday afternoon and got some fresh air. We found my car (the only one) on the visitior parking lot, buried under the snow. We cleared off the snow. We wanted to park it in a vacant spot by my future mother in law's car, in the garage, but the lot was icy and I couldn't get out (the lot incline is upward toward the street. So we decided to just park in one of the spaces that had been cleared around my car last night.

I took a walk out. It was beautiful and quiet around Tenleytown and toward the National Cathedral. Hopefully, things wil be better tomorrow so we can do errands.

I'd already cleaned off my car and did some digging around it yesterday, so it only took me about an hour to completely dig it out again today. My mom thought it was prudent to buy me a snow shovel for Christmas a couple of years ago, after I'd moved. It finally came in handy this weekend.

The side streets in my neighborhood seem drive-able. Certainly I saw several people venturing out. I hear that the main roads are actually in good shape. However, I didn't risk driving today, as much as I wanted to. I also didn't want to lose my parking spot - I worked hard to clear it out and I'll be damned if I give it up so some lazy ass can some and steal it while I'm gone.
