So Like 20" of snow by Saturday afternoon

Reporting in from north Jersey...

I'm sure glad I have nowhere to go tomorrow. Supposed to keep coming down all night.

^Yeah. The street looks like it was untouched. I guess it isn't part of the Snow Emergency Route, since the cars are still parked along the curbside since yesterday.

Eh, I haven't seen one singles car move from my street and it, like all major roads in the city, is a snow emergency route. Thing is a) it's not safe to drive and b) they have no where to go. From the last blizzard, they seem to give people a day or two grace period before they start ticketing. Because, of course, it's not safe for the meter maids and such to be out either and the tow companies make more off rescuing stranded motorists than they do off towing cars for the city.

Anyway, here are some crappy pictures taken from the relative warmth of my barely-heated apartment:

(Snow emergency route, btw)

(Those two cars in front had been shoveled out about 30 minutes earlier.)

This shows the plowed and the unplowed. I think the cross street was plowed maybe 3 or 4 times today. The main road is being done every hour or so.

^ Those last two pics look rather striking with the orangeish lighting. Did you do that deliberately or did it just turn out that way? Either way, nicely done. :techman:

Thanks. It's just a combination of a shitty camera and the color of the streetlights though. It's nor dynamic than it would have been with full color correction, so I left it in.

This beast has finally arrived - there's gonna be some serious digging out tomorrow. But for tonight we're just going to enjoy the show ;)

I just saw on CNN that Kira's Mom was able to make it to choir practice tonight.

 Believe me, I would not go that far to get to choir practice. :p

The view from my deck at lunchtime:

Those snow piles are higher now. Everything is being cancelled- schools are getting a two day jump on Christmas break!

I'm up to 8 or 9 inches now and it's still coming.
This is our very first snowfall in my town this winter and man is it a whopper! I've already brought in a few bags of pellets from the shed so I don't have to deal with that tomorrow. This would have been a nightmare to have to deal with during the work week. I'm not even going to bother shoveling out until after a great big breakfast and coffee ;)

I have a friend in New Jersey that's had over two feet of snow. She and her husband shoveled out twice before just giving up to wait on morning to come.

A friend of mine was just telling me how his parents down in Long Branch (southern NJ) had 1.5ish ft this afternoon. I'm guessing we have about 6-8in here in central NJ right now, but I'm too cozy to make the schlep outside to get a more accurate measurement.

Final tally for DC is 16.3 inches. Just got back from walking around the neighborhood. Chinatown has a fairly busy restaurant and bar block. It was totally deserted tonight.
