So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoilers)

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

I'd rather not have anything in this show to be a lie. That would actually not be cool.

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

Maybe The Doctor doesn't even know that it's a lie. Maybe he thinks he is actually the person who he is portraying. He is a timelord and everything he is doing is the truth, the only dishonesty is that he isn't who he claims to be by identity alone. He is still a timelord solving problems, but he's not a Doctor.

We still don't know the full mechanics of The Doctor's regeneration abilities. For all we know, he could have focused his energy on the real Doctor and regenerated into a body that looked like his. This could even have been done with the real Doctor's blessing, perhaps in order to protect the timelord from something or someone?

He might not even be aware of it and only realised that something was up when the question "Doctor Who?" was posed to him. He probably realises it's something very significant, but cannot understand what it exactly means.

Doesn't change my point. Although if it happened before the first Doctor, that mitigates this somewhat. I still think it's stupidly unnecessary, though.

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

that's even more stupid than the Cartmel Masterplan.

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

I have no idea, but I don't think it should be something good, The Doctor needs a bit of dirt to his name. After all, his last incarnation was known to be quite ruthless on occasion which could mean something yet.

But...before Unearthly Child, the Doctor wasn't a Timelord solving problems. They've very much presented it as him having a few "adventures" before Ian and Barbara that basically involved him watching stuff happen and, when necessary, running away when things got rough. It wasn't until he started traveling with Ian and Barbara, until their joy at traveling the universe started to rub off on him, that he started enjoying things. That he started interfering, making things better, actually playing a prominent role in events.

He had no reputation whatsoever to give to someone else, all he would have been known for was the Time Lords knowing he stole one of their TARDISes. The only way I could think this as even beginning to make sense would be if he swapped identities so as to not be caught for stealing a TARDIS and then decided to give the TARDIS to this person anyway. In which case, if he was just going to give it to the person he swapped identities with, why did he even steal it in the first place? (Though even this doesn't make sense in the aftermath of "The Doctor's Wife".)

Besides this being a Shyamalan-esque twist-for-the-sake-of-having-a-twist, it would make absolutely no sense from either a plot or a character perspective. It wouldn't even add dirt to the Doctor like you wanted, it would either do nothing at all or it would actually remove dirt if it turned out the person we've been seeing as the Doctor never stole the TARDIS after all.

If they're going to make the big question, Doctor who? They will have to come up with a satisfying answer. I don't think revealing his name, no matter what it would be, would be satisfying. I just hope Moffat has given it a lot of thought because the way he is setting it up, he'll need something good!

It is the question that must never answered. Moffat knows this, and that his name more than a secret.

No, my biggest fear for the series is that Moffat is labouring under the misapprehension that he's capable of pulling a 4th wall breaker. He's not.

There is still time to do face book campaign or something.

It should never be answered - I think some fans would only be happy if we got every detail about the Doctor upto and including a colonoscopy.

They can reveal who the Doctor is without revealing his name. I'd agree whatever his name is it'll be a dissapointment.

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

They can give us a pretty satisfying answer about the secret of the Doctor's identity without explicitly saying or confirming anything. Just like how they handled "The End of Time" and the appearance of the Doctor's Mother/Susan/Romana.

I think they will come up with an answer. I don't think it'll be his name. It may not be a complete answer either. But, they're setting it up too much to have no answer at all. I suspect it'll be more about who he is as a person, but not his name.

Perhaps his name won't be heard? Perhaps he'll announce it and have Amy, Rory, and River standing around looking astounded but the audience will only hear silence.

I also like the idea of his answer to "Doctor Who?" being, simply, "...Just the Doctor, actually."

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

I'm not surprised Moffat's making the Doctor's real name a major part of his story, now that I think of it. He was teasing about the Doctor's name as far back as Series Two's "The Girl in the Fireplace."

" 'Doctor.' Doctor who? It's more than just a secret, isn't it?"

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler

^OOh I'd forgotten that!

Re: So, has Moffat brought back the Cartmel Master Plan? (6x13 Spoiler
