Thumbs up for Matt!

But I'm still undecided about the stories he's been given. I was expecting a darker tone and to have more genuine scares like The Empty Child and Silence in the Library!

Instead we got annoying Rory, too much shouting and intrusive, bad music!

Doctor Who needs its gothic edge back!!

I'm all for dark and gothic (and definitely think an ep like Vampires could have used more of that edge), but I was pretty happy with the balance they found overall. Smith's Doctor is such a fun and cheery fellow that you kind of need some lighter stories for him to do his thing in (and I would hate to give up eps like The Lodger).

And I completely disagree about the music. I thought it was MUCH less antic and in-your-face this year, and reflected the more subdued tone of the stories themselves really well.

Definitely thumbs up. A vast improvement on the (vastly overrated) Tennant (which of course damns him with faint praise, but anyway). He's made new Who watchable for me; no mean feat. :bolian:
Now see what happens when we agree on something? The universe collapses and has to be rebooted!
It's a good thing we don't agree often, isn't it? :p :D

I know I was kinda freaked out when you ditched the Eccleston av.

Eleven's such a cutie-pie, who could resist? :luvlove:

First off, I'm a guy, and I'm proud of my heterosexuality.

Second, when he stepped out of the Tardis at the wedding, well, I thought it was just a fantastic scene and if I was a girl, I would have had the hots for him too. He made that outfit look way too good.

Oh, I know!! HOT HOT HOT!!! No wonder Amy wanted to snog him so badly. Who can blame her?

The thing is for me, and I suspect a significant chunk of that 96.36% who voted thumbs up in the poll, is that with Matt was he was literally a smash hit right from the start. Now, admittedly, a lot of that comes from the story being well written (if fairly straightforward), but even so, you still need an actor who has a lot of charisma and a good handle on his character to be able to pull that off. That doesn't happen often. Hartnell, I think managed it, and perhaps maybe Tom, but, IMO, most of the others took a few episodes or even a few stories before they started to appeal, and before the actor started to relax into the roles.

Viewed in this context, I think Matt, and the creative team involved, did a remarkable job.

^Yup. Some people hit the ground running, Matt Smith hit the ground driving a Porche...
