SNW uniforms and characters revealed (old and new)

It'll be interesting to see some of the more minor TOS characters like Uhura, M'Benga, and Chapel get some more development. At the same time, I'm a bit torn, because I know they'll inevitably contradict stuff that TOS established or implied at some point.

I like the idea of an Aenar being in the crew, as the Andorians are one of the less-developed alien species in Trek.

A descendant of Khan's... We'll see. My big fear is that it'll retroactively make Kirk and crew look really foolish in "Space Seed."

My hope is that it's as beautifully written continuity-wise as Better Call Saul (probably the best prequel ever in terms of fitting with its parent series), but I know it's much more likely we'll be seeing a lot of retcons.

I don't see what's wrong with liking the fact that a blind man is playing a blind character. It's great representation.

Absolutely nothing, but from the phrasing in the post hitting like was awkward because it says "This actor is blind" so by hitting like it could be interpreted as me saying "Great, I'm glad that man is blind" not "Great, I'm glad the producers hired someone who is vision impaired to play a character who is vision impaired". It's why Facebook added different reactions than just like (My Grandma Died - Dave likes this). That's all I meant.

I sincerely doubt they gave a main character the same surname as Khan not to comment on it.

I’m sure you’re right — subtle the new productions aren’t. But the joy of having not seen a minute of SNW is that I can hope that will change.

Chapel's appearance is already in question with how it fits with the Roger Korby stuff.

Really like the overall look of the cast and their uniforms. Love the shoulder detail and those medical uniforms. Can't quite shake the fact that Pike's collar is a perfect match for an Express Men's v-neck tee, but I'll get over it.

The security chief looks like they're doing a version of Lexxa Singh from the Star Trek: Renegades fan film (and I bet she was created in a lab too, rather than being a descendant), crossed with whats-her-name from The Orville, who always opens the jars of pickles.

Called it on Uhura and M'Benga:cool:

I... preferred the Discovery season 2 uniforms. Or the Star Trek Beyond ones. Love Spock's actual hair instead of a dodgy wig, they've gotten it and his sideburns 100% right.

If a descendant of Khan served aboard the Enterprise a decade before, it makes Kirk & co. look really slow on the uptake for not realizing who they're dealing with sooner.

That I'm fine with, as it's never said in "What Are Little Girls Made Of?" that Chapel wasn't in Starfleet before. Kirk says, "I understand you gave up a career in bio-research to sign aboard a starship." I'm assuming that means she was just on another Starfleet assignment elsewhere.

You could also make a case for Dr. Korby being in Starfleet, as he's wearing an old style Starfleet uniform in the Enterprise's file photo:

It's not as if people in the 23rd century don't know who Khan was. He was a historical figure. La'An just happens to have the misfortune of being related to this dictator. I'm sure there are many real-world examples of this. Her relation to Khan coupled with the fact she might have some fraction of genetic enhancement probably makes her an outcast to her peers.
