SNW Season 5 In Development

A listing in the Writers Guild of America West has revealed that Strange New Worlds Season 5 is on the cards. While it’s exciting to know that we have more adventures of Captain Pike and the USS Enterprise coming up, it is possible that Season 5 could be the end of the line for this Star Trek series. No modern Trek series has made it past 5 seasons at the moment.

At the time of writing, there has been no official announcement from Paramount+. This will likely be announced very soon or revealed at a major event, such as the upcoming San Diego Comic-Con 2025.

Franchise head Alex Kurtzman envisioned Strange New Worlds as an ongoing series that could span the seven years between Discovery’s second season and the accident that injures Pike before The Original Series.

As much as Alex Kurtzman may want it, penny-pinching Paramount Plus (say THAT three times fast) hasn't shown much interest in making it happen (ESPECIALLY with the newer, less expensive Starfleet Academy in production).

Got any proof of this?

Given they're rolling through production on season 4 as we speak and season 3's about to release in a big way says very much the opposite.

There's something brewing in the WGAW about it.
What's brewing? They simply have a listing indicating the writer's room is up and running and that's it. You're reaching conclusions about Paramount's motivation with extremely little evidence.

God, I hate reading this stuff. Not the "exclusive" about Season 5. I assume that's just a line in a WGA publication that they simply read. The formatting just bugs me. It's like I'm reading a hastily composed presentation at a boring business meeting. All that's missing is PowerPoint. "Conclusion"

Uh huh..is that why SNW Season 4 started filming right after principal filming on SFA S1 ended?

They want to make use of the studio, and have two Live Action series in production has been going on for years. SNW also has gotten better streaming ratings than Star Trek Discovery and Picard.

^I was under the impression that Picard season 3 got the highest ratings in all of the new Trek era.
Episodes of Strange New Worlds during both seasons 1 and 2 made the streaming top 10 list WRT minutes watched more then Picard S3 episodes overall.

The final episode of Picard featuring The 1701-D and the original D bridge was its highest rated episode; and that episode could have got more minutes than any SNW episode,, about overall SNW has more minutes watched and more episodes in the top 10

I think it’s safe to say that both Strange New Worlds and Picard’s third season did fairly well - we don’t know if they hit the metrics Paramount might have wanted, but they surely aren’t duds.

Discovery’s fifth season was the only one we’ve gotten official tracking on, right? The only one that came out after Nielsen started posting this stuff publicly, I mean. It popped into the top ten a few times, but the numbers weren’t as impressive. Still, just getting there is a feat.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I prefer the more direct approach to news-writing, AKA, it’s not a dang feature, it’s a dang news bit.

There is also someone on reddit, claiming to be part of production in some way, saying Season 5 is happening

Couple other posts where they talk about production

That’s a very short jump between production on seasons three through five overall, isn’t it? Gotta take a toll on the staff.

Season 3 finished filming May 2024, Season 4 didn't start until March this year.

But yes the production gap between 4 and 5 seems quick.

Though look at Picard Seasons 2 and 3, there was only a 2-3 day gap between them.

Oh, right. Bigger gap between third and fourth. I keep forgetting that since we know about four when three isn’t out yet, haha.

Since there is no context it's hard to say. Maybe pre-production? Not sure where writing figures in the timeline of making a show.

That’s true. I was just using the WGA listing in conjunction with the alleged production person who claims to be rolling into season five afterward. Although, that does come with two notable caveats:

  • They did not specify how quickly that would happen;
  • They might not even be telling the truth about working on the show!
