Smallville Summer Hiatus Thread III (Spoilers)

^

For what it's worth, I agree completely. I've never understood the logic (or lack thereof) behind it. I mean, it's all Warner Bros., fer cryin' out loud. As you said, it's not going to diminish the box-office potential of Batman 3 if Bruce Wayne were to appear in Smallville (though at this point, Ollie has pretty much assumed Bruce's mantle, it seems).

I have to admit with very little real news to actually report on...I'm having a blast so far ranting and raving. We should have a special ranting and raving thread during the season too!

cassidy has this smirk and this other thing she does with her eyes, an eye smirk, but her double smirk, it's really claiming/insisting oh so loudly how much better she is than the script she's been propped up against.

Considering she's almost in charge of the planet (the world, not the news paper.) it's not an uncalled for expression from her character.

I think Cassidy is happy she has a job. She is better than the character as it has been written. She looks mean and sexy...much more appealing on screen than Eric Durance...who I am finding very annoying now.

Agreed about Erica...my rant in a previous thread...or maybe it was this one about her excessive useage of rapid fire quips is getting to me now. I'd wish they would tone that down and write people normally sometimes, more mature despite being on a network that is garnered towards young people, not all young people talk like Erica and Chloe do.

Old news that Cassidy is back...this was indeed reported a couple of months ago when the season ten cast list was announced. Yes I love her acting and expressions and the writers have bungled Tess since Lana came back and essentially altered her character's fundamental basis for existing. It's no wonder that the writers don't know what to do with her...she flip flops between being good and evil...kind of like Clark ;)

Lois as Erica Durance played her was a very straight shooter, very blunt with dialog and Chloe was quipy...over the last 2 seasons...9 more so than 8 Lois is being written very much how Chloe was back during S1-4.
Tess is pretty much a non-character at this point...she is whatever the writers need her to be episode by episode.

[edit] Like Clark.

Yeah Lois essentially assumed Chloe's identity and personality the moment that Chloe became "Watchtower" or perhaps a little before that. Season Four Lois wasn't nearly as annoying as the last couple of seasons. That's not Erica's fault...like most things Smallville I blame the writers.

Lois was a character that could say things Chloe & Clark or Lana as far as the good guys go couldn't get away with. It is a shame the direction the writers are going with the show now...if they had introduced all the cool stuff now with how the characters were S1-5...the show would have shined...it is pretty much flickering along now.
I always thought Clark discovering the Fortress should have happened at the end of S2 instead of him just putting on Red K ring and acting like an ass. Bart Allen should have been introduced S2, Victor Stone & Arthur Curry S3 and Oliver Queen S4. S5 should have brought on Kara, Zod, Bizarro & Brainiac. Take out the fluff and all this would have fit. S6 would have him moving toward his destiny and more JL, the JSA and L* could have played a part. Big mistake ever bringing in Jimmy and then him not being Jimmy and Doomsday was epic FAIL...no need for that at all. I think SMALLVILLE would end with alot of grace with everything coming to a head for S7 and then end it. S8 & S9 pretty much a waist. The show was held back due to SR...Millar & Gough point this out...if SMALLVILLE could have just been allowed to have all the iconic stuff early...which M&G wanted...the show would have been in a better place.

The thing about the Kandorians is that I'm pretty sure that they took that from the "New Krypton" storyline and just adapted it so it would fit into Smallville. They made them clones instead of freed Phantom Zoners since there is no Bottle City of Kandor yet (Kara is still trying to find it ;) and the finale happened almost essentially like the final issue of War of the Supermen except instead of the Zone projector they used the Book of Rao to transport them to another planet.

I didn't like it and I just feel it doesn't fit with what SMALLVILLE is about...or atleast was about. It was a huge blunder for Kara to be searching for Kandor and have this story play out with no Kara in sight.

J'onn should have gone and found her...but of course we know Laura is busy on V so that wasn't possible. They could have recast her too that would have been suitable to me.

Well we'll see once the next and final season begins to find out the arc that will ultimately result in Kal-El becoming Superman.
I keep an open mind during these shows, and my tongue firmly tucked in my cheek.

That's all for now

Signed

Buck Rogers

We will indeed see what will happen in season ten...and hopefully it will lead to Clark becoming Superman as you say but one never knows where Smallville is concerned.

Or they could have used Blurrs and exposition, like they did for the rest of the season with the JLA. Hell in the Roulette episode Chloe was saying that half the JLA was in that episode behind the scenes in the shadows greasing the wheels.

Could you imagine some sort of kypronian Bigotry?

"Great Rao Clark, they're not people, they're just clones".

Actually there is a great Kryptonian story involving clones...part of the mythos there...SMALLVILLE writers are too stupid to use stuff like that and make it compelling.

Wait? Wasn't she into a clone of her mother stored on a blue crystal?

And if she really only treated people like people then they wouldn't have treated Brianiac like a person.

Where's the clone story please jetfire, I might have it somewhere in my clomuns of comic boxes. Worlds of krypton or something else? i seem to recall clone banks where everyone had three bodies on call for emergency surgery from birth.

However, this society was tipping toward decadence and eventually political strife that resulted from the debate as to whether clones should have rights (sparked by the presence of an alien missionary known as The Cleric).

Although the Eradicator's effects (altering the DNA of all Kryptonian life-forms so that they would instantly die upon leaving the planet) were felt immediately, the Destroyer's effects were possibly more significant: By the time the Kryptonian government admitted defeat and abolished the clone banks, a pro-clone rights terrorist faction known as Black Zero had started the Destroyer, a device which functioned as a giant nuclear gun, projecting massive streams of nuclear energy into the core of Krypton, intended to trigger an explosive chain reaction within Krypton's core almost immediately.

I have a Superman book that goes in detail on this but seems about right...SMALLVILLE mentions vaguely stuff about Black Zero...but never in detail or tried to make a compelling story about this on it's own.
