Sleepy Hollow Season 2 Discussion

Anytime I read about Fox "fixing" a show, that usually means it's about to ruined and shortly thereafter, cancelled.

That's hardly unique to FOX. You could say the same about pretty much all networks or studios. Executive meddling does sometimes turn out to be a positive, but not in the majority of cases.

Honestly, the only reason SF fans fixate so much on FOX's foibles is that FOX has aired more SF/fantasy shows over the course of its existence than any other network. Ditto for Syfy, which also gets a ton of complaints. They aren't really doing anything that other networks don't; it's just that other networks haven't generally had as many genre shows for us to complain about.

What about the collective works of The WB, UPN & The CW? :rommie:

Katrina and Ichabod were out on a date tonight at the Sleepy Hollow Historical Society Museum and found themselves a supernatural killer painting. Who would've thought Abigail Adams was a witch too? Meanwhile, resurrected Irving showed up at the sheriff's station to an amazed Abbie, who didn't feel she could trust him just yet.

Nice balanced story overall. I'm glad to see Katrina have more of an important role tonight than just being the damsel in distress. She had been a prisoner of Henry and Abraham for too long. Even Jenny was instrumental in getting the charmed bullets that Abbie used to stop the killer. I wonder when we'll see Henry again.

Okay, as a firearms enthusiast, I'd like to know just how you pull USED bullets out of a corpse and have them all ready to load into your 9mm's magazine with no apparent intermediate steps. I'll have to assume that Jenny had access to a reloading press and 9mm reloading dies, and spent the time between recovering them and giving them to Abbie by jamming them into fresh, new, empty 9mm cartridge cases with powder and primer.

Yeah, I know - headless horsemen, purgatory, angels, haunted paintings, and used bullets is what takes me out of the story? Well, the fantasy stuff can make up it's own rules; the real world stuff already has real world rules. I'm sure it's happened to all of you, when a movie gets something you know about wrong.

That said - great episode, good story. Kind of a Night Gallery episode! I laughed hysterically at Jenny and the Zombie. And it was nice to see Michelle Trachtenberg's pasty white face again (it's like she has no blood!).

They're certainly competitive with FOX in the percentage of genre shows they've aired -- and The CW probably takes the prize for being the most genre-heavy broadcast network right now. But they haven't been around as long, so cumulatively they've aired fewer genre shows than FOX has.

I'm pretty sure Abigail Adams wasn't a witch.
I really enjoyed this one. I liked seeing Katrina and Ichbod solving their own case together, and I'm very curious to see what they are doing with Irving. I really hope he doesn't turn out to be a bad guy.
I wonder how much longer it'll be before we see Henry again?
Honestly, I was really nervous when they said the network was making them go more episodic, but if the standalone episodes are going to be like this I don't mind. I'm hoping we still get some arc stuff, like we did last night, even if it's not as heavily serialized as the show has been. The arc was one of my favorite things about show, so I'd hate to see the show go 100% monster of the week.

I thought it was great. It's nice to see a solid standalone episode. It had a nice haunted painting plot (which reminded me of one of the unproduced episodes of Night Stalker) and plenty of flashbacks to the Revolutionary Era. It was funny to see Ichabod being the one to teach someone about the 21st century-- I just hope they remember that the chemistry between Abby and Ichabod is the real star of the show. Jenny's zombie scene was hilarious (I didn't think about the used bullets, but maybe it was because they were magic). And it looks like they are going to straighten things out with Irving-- I hope.

She wasn't. We were told that when she needed help banishing the killer, she got help from a member of Katrina's coven rather than doing it herself. So she wasn't a witch herself -- just an ally. ;)

I think the actress who plays Katrina needs to work more on her presence's. she and Ichabod have no chemistry at all. ichabod and abbie have better romantic chemistry. Watching the beginning of season 2 ,I was one of those people counting the days down until Ichabod and abbie kiss. if they kill of Katrina. nothing much will change with me, that is how little of presence she has on screen even with the whole damsel in distress thing.

it was nice to have an episode where Katrina wasn't the focal point of drama. i don't think its the fault of the actress, i think Katrina just comes across as unlikeable.

That is because she is not believable as a character. she is there to be ichabod wife in name only.

From what I've read, they might be doing more standalones.

Glad Irving is back. We need him more solidly a character. Though he doesn't have a soul (Did he get it back with purgatory emptied? Was it emptied?), does anyone still own him since Moloch is gone (Is he gone?)?

My friend's husband has suggested that Henry is behind the plot point of Irving being cleared by the DA. At this point, I wish Henry would just go away and they would stop messing with poor Irving.

So nice of Stahma Tarr to drop in on this episode. She must be waiting for the next season of Defiance.

That was actually a pretty good episode. The monster of the week format would be just as good as other shows like Supernatural. The plot revolved around Hawley's past, ie, the woman who took care of him and wound up becoming a supernatural creature called a vetala. It appears Hawley is going away for an extended time, though I have to admit I was starting to like this guy.

Question: What was the ending about? Katrina indicated that Irving was free from Henry's influence, but what exactly did he see in the reflection as he was hugging his wife?

I hope the lack of reflection doesn't mean Irving is a vampire or something. Strictly speaking (if anything about folklore and myth can be called "strict"), it's only silvered mirrors that reject the reflections of vampires, because silver has the power to repel evil (the same reason silver bullets kill werewolves). So vampires should reflect in window glass.

But more importantly -- Hawley is leaving! Thank goodness, they're finally writing him out! And it looks like they're trying to bring Ichabod and Abbie back together as an effective team again -- perhaps a bit too self-consciously, but it's still the right way to go.

And I'm not at all surprised that Nicole Beharie is a great singer. There's always been something musical about her line readings, the remarkably creative way she uses her voice and delivers her dialogue. I just wish they'd let us listen to more of her karaoke performance.

So, at this point Jaime Murray has played a serial arsonist, H.G. Wells, a vampire, a scheming alien crimelord, and a Hindu demon. She's giving Alice Krige a run for her money when it comes to playing exotic, somewhat sinister women . . . .

Her role in Spartacus on Starz, as merely a playful nymphomaniac, seems downright innocent!
