Hi all. I'm very much a Sony gamer, but have been off-put by the price of the PS3 and the lack of backwards compatibility. However, with the announcement of the new slimmer design, coupled with a drop in price, I'm toying with the idea of trying to convince my mom to buy me one for my birthday (in November) and/or Christmas. However, because the system is about 100/200 dollars more than she usually spends on me and my siblilngs, if I do end up getting the system, it is likely that I will only end up being able to get one game to go along with it. To that end, I thought I would ask for suggestions on the single best PS3 game currently out there. To help narrow down the suggestions, keep in mind that I really enjoy RPGs and platform (action/adventure-type) games, and would be looking for something with lasting appeal, since it would likely be a while before I was able to afford more games.
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.
You said you're into RPG's and looking for long lasting games. Nothing will serve you better than Oblivion or Fallout. Both games are huuuuuge. I think Oblivion might just edge Fallout er, out, in terms of size (the PS3 version includes all the DLC on disc). That said, Fallout 3 has PS3 DLC coming on the way, but you have to pay extra. Neither are typically good looking games, but they have their moments and their scope is extremely impressive.
If you're looking for action adventure, I think the best action adventure game on PS3 is Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, which just went greatest hits, so you can get it for cheap. It's not a long game, but it's very enjoyable, is still one of the best looking games on the system, and it's got good replay value.
If you're looking for a platformer, you have fewer options. Ratchet and Clank is a great game, I'm sure you must have played the PS2 versions, it's exactly the same except much prettier. There's also LittleBigPlanet, which is a sidescrolling 2.5D platformer with a lot of levels built in, 60 I think. The cool thing is that you can also create your own levels and upload them to the internet, or download levels others have made. At last count there are over 1 million levels available.
Assassin's Creed is a really intruiging action adventure platformer, but I hesitate to recommend it since it might not be to everyone's taste. Prince of Persia is also good.
That said, if you can only get one game, get Oblivion or Fallout, both can last literally over 100 hours depending on how you play.
