Single best PS3 game?

Valkyria Chronicles... one of the best games I have ever played. Every PS3 owner should definitely get it.

Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction are awesome as well.

The Ratchet & Clank games rank as some of my all time faves, I don't think I can bring myself to buy a PS3 just for that though.

Are there more Ratchet & Clank on the horizon?

There's Tools of Destruction which is a complete game and has been out for a couple of years now. About a year ago, Quest for Booty was released. It's downloable game that's sort of a semi-sequel to Tools of Destruction. It's shorter, but also much cheaper. It's still just as much fun though.

And A Crack in Time is being released later this year, which will be a proper sequel to Tools of Destruction.

I'll never ever get accustomed to playing FPS games. The controls can be frustrating and the camera movements make me sick to my stomach, literally. CoD 4 had that effect on me, so I got rid of it quickly and traded it in for store credit at EB Games.

The lack of situational awareness when playing FPS games on consoles gets to me. I want to glance around quickly to get my bearings and I can't. I feel constrained and disconnected from the spatial environment.

Valkyria Chronicles might just be one of the greatest games ever made, IMO. And I reckon it's by far the best game on PS3. Amazing.

It looks like a lot of you guys have played Valkyria Chronicles (which sounds like an AWESOME game, BTW), but has anybody played any of the other RPGs that are out there right now for the PS3, like Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls IV, Eternal Sonata, or Sacred 2?

Another Valkyria fan here, definitely worth checking out.

I've also played Eternal Sonata, which had me hooked just the same as Valkyria, despite being so different. PS3 version has extra content and is like gold dust in the UK at the moment.

Fallout is awesome too, but I like my games charming and compared to Valkyria and ES charming it ain't.

Sacred 2 was a bit boring because it didn't draw me in at the beginning, which is a bit of a problem when that's exactly the point of an RPG.

I've yet to play Oblivion, but according to people who know what I like it's right up my alley.

Of all of the above that I've played, Valkyria is the one that's had me glued to my dualshock.

Hi all. I'm very much a Sony gamer, but have been off-put by the price of the PS3 and the lack of backwards compatibility. However, with the announcement of the new slimmer design, coupled with a drop in price, I'm toying with the idea of trying to convince my mom to buy me one for my birthday (in November) and/or Christmas. However, because the system is about 100/200 dollars more than she usually spends on me and my siblilngs, if I do end up getting the system, it is likely that I will only end up being able to get one game to go along with it. To that end, I thought I would ask for suggestions on the single best PS3 game currently out there. To help narrow down the suggestions, keep in mind that I really enjoy RPGs and platform (action/adventure-type) games, and would be looking for something with lasting appeal, since it would likely be a while before I was able to afford more games.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions.

You said you're into RPG's and looking for long lasting games. Nothing will serve you better than Oblivion or Fallout. Both games are huuuuuge. I think Oblivion might just edge Fallout er, out, in terms of size (the PS3 version includes all the DLC on disc). That said, Fallout 3 has PS3 DLC coming on the way, but you have to pay extra. Neither are typically good looking games, but they have their moments and their scope is extremely impressive.

If you're looking for action adventure, I think the best action adventure game on PS3 is Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, which just went greatest hits, so you can get it for cheap. It's not a long game, but it's very enjoyable, is still one of the best looking games on the system, and it's got good replay value.

If you're looking for a platformer, you have fewer options. Ratchet and Clank is a great game, I'm sure you must have played the PS2 versions, it's exactly the same except much prettier. There's also LittleBigPlanet, which is a sidescrolling 2.5D platformer with a lot of levels built in, 60 I think. The cool thing is that you can also create your own levels and upload them to the internet, or download levels others have made. At last count there are over 1 million levels available.

Assassin's Creed is a really intruiging action adventure platformer, but I hesitate to recommend it since it might not be to everyone's taste. Prince of Persia is also good.

That said, if you can only get one game, get Oblivion or Fallout, both can last literally over 100 hours depending on how you play.

Heavy Rain could be a great PS3 game and has me even considering buying a PS3 in the future.

Another vote for Valkyria Chronicles. That game is just unbelievable.

I would say MGS4 also, but for me the MGS games have lessened in quality each time out.

Another game I'm going to add for when (IF!) it comes out is Gran Turismo 5. Of course, one has to be into that sort of thing, but even from just a technical aspect it's going to pretty much blow everything else out of the water.

I played Eternal Sonata for the 360 and it was awesome, so I expect the same for the PS3. Tales of Vesparia was another awesome RPG (best RPG of the generation so far if you ask me) for the 360 that is getting a PS3 port so be on the look out for that. As for Fallout 3, apparently the DLC isnt coming out for the PS3 so I never tried that version

Unfortunately, the chance of Vesperia getting released outside of Japan is still pretty small and Banmco is reluctant (as usual) to say one way or the other.

The thing of it is, is it isn't just a port; it's almost an entirely whole new game. There are several new story related dungeons, new characters, slightly upgraded graphics, and a lot of the story has been chopped up and rearranged. So, it's pretty much going to require a whole new localization and who's to say whether they can justify the cost or not.

It's too bad because, as a Tales game, I was kind of disappointed with the XBOX game. The PS3 one looks to be killer.
