With some recent talk about what the "fans" like and don't like, lets at least see what this tiny fraction of a message board likes.

Yes. But I think the polls for the two films already answer this question. People overwhelmingly rate them well. :techman:

I think they're reasonably fun, entertaining blockbusters but they don't really feel like true Trek to me. There's a novelty value to seeing characters portrayed by other actors and there's a lot fan wank thrown in but it's all a bit superficial. To me, the reboots were necessary to keep the franchise alive and stop the rot but something is still missing. There's something cold about them

I don't hate them, I just don't feel warm and fuzzy about them

I like one well enough, but the other not so much, so they cancel each other out into a non-vote.

No.

I must qualify that - I kind of enjoy them when I see them at the cinema, but I don't want to see them a second time.

I buy the Blurays (it's Trek after all), but I don't play them.

I don't really like the cast (with the exception of Karl Urban), and I'm not keen on the storytelling.

It's better than nothing though...

Been watching TOS since the early 1970s in Syndication, and watched TAS in first run. I like the Reboots a lot.

Kind of hard to comprehend someone thinking they don't feel like "Real Trek" and then going on to say they are full of Fan Wank?

Back when the first one came out, I was in the opposite camp for some reason. I went and seen it the first time, had a blast. Came to places like this and saw people tearing it down over violations of what came before and grabbed my virtual pitchfork as well. Went to see it a second time, had a blast. Same thing after coming to places like this. Abrams was the devil and destroying the Star Trek I love. Went a third time same results during and after.

At that point, I realized there was a disconnect in my thinking. How could these movies be so fun to watch and the characters very recognizable, yet they not be "good" Star Trek? I had to step away, revisit some of my favorite stuff from the Star Trek universe (mainly TOS) and realized that the things that people were complaining about existed in abundance in the material that came before.

That was when I changed camps. Yeah, both movies have their rather obvious flaws. But when I watch them, I feel like a kid again re-experiencing the Star Trek universe.

I enjoyed watching both movies and looking forward to the third. I'm hoping that one is even better, maybe special in some way, specially with the 50th anniversary in mind.

I don't see why people are liking the first one but not STID. Why are they so different ?

I thought the second film was flawed, but a bit better. Doesn't anyone like it ?

They were alright. Though I rolled my eyes a few times (why did Spock yell Kahn? It was Marcus' fault), I still had a blast.
