Silo (Apple TV+) | Rebecca Ferguson, David Oyelowo, Tim Robbins

I watched the first two episodes of this series tonight. I’m very intrigued, and considering I just watched the Mission Impossible franchise, I am liking seeing Furguson in more things. I like the mystery so far.

Some people find Juliette (Jules) Nichols unlikable. Her backstory explains her character traits, however, and I do not expect characters in dystopian fiction to be charming and infallible. She suffers for her mistakes and lack of insight into what is really going on in the silo. Even Bernard Holland and Robert Sims, who are hiding information, are only working within the parameters of what they know and what they believe is best for maintaining order.

Started watching this a few days ago with my son, and just as soon as I thought I discovered a plot hole or other mistake, that hole got back-filled a bit later. I find much of it fascinating, sort of an anti-high-concept sci-fi show, what with the Pact forbidding elevators and too powerful a lens. And the show isn't afraid to redshirt it's cast, either...

Just finished the season. This might be my favorite show of the year. Once again Apple makes the investment into their streaming service worth it. Just think if they added Star Trek to it (Wishful thinking on my part, but if Paramount is struggling, I would much rather see Apple get Trek than Disney), and I think Apple TV+ could be the best service. This season was amazing, Juliette was amazing and that finale was awesome. Looking forward to season 2, whenever that will be. I know I will be rewatching Season 1 when we get closer to that time.

Also, after having just seen the entire mission impossible franchise and then jumping into Silo, Rebecca Ferguson has been on my radar a lot lately. She's a great actress.

I've never read the books, but considering the long wait and I always say I need to do more reading and never do, maybe I should get into these books. I tried that with Star Trek years ago and it was just overwhelming that I stopped. Maybe Silo isn't that long of a book series.

There are three novels in the Silo saga - Wool, Shift and Dust - and three short stories (available in either The Apocalypse Triptych or Machine Learning). Wool and Shift are essentially collections of short stories that Hugh Howey originally self-published individually. I haven't read the other short stories. Apparently, Howey has another book in the works set in the same universe, but the Silo saga seems complete enough to me.

Silo became my favorite show of last year. That trailer has me even more excited. I have to rewatch Season 1 before the new season starts, but that's fine. I think this is a show where you can find out new things on each rewatch.

I guess I'm going to have to try this one again. I lost interest about mid-way through the season. But all the buzz is making me wonder if I missed something.

Dramatically, I find Silo is better than a lot of other stuff currently on streaming services. My test for excellence is whether I would want to rewatch a series even knowing how it unfolds. I have no desire to do so for Silo season one. However, I have no wish that I could unwatch it like I do for The Rings of Power. I am going to watch Silo season two, but I'll wait until I can binge it.

I just did a rewatch of Silo and realized I love it more than I did with For All Mankind. I still like FAM, but Silo was much more focused and the characters were a lot better. I even liked Common, who seemed take some criticism in the reviews I read.

Looking forward to season 2.

The new episode of Silo is out and I am currently watching it. So far, great start.

Fantastic premiere. Looking forward to getting deeper into the season. Love how resourceful Juliette is.

I like FAM but it is a bit silly and forgettable in later seasons.
It's best attribute is it got me to avail of an Apple+ trial and now I absolutely love Foundation, Mythic Quest and Silo.

Rebecca Ferguson is a great physical actress.

Interesting you say that because another forum I post at people are saying Furguson was mis-cast because "she's not strong enough". For one, I think she's pretty strong, but having just rewatched season 1, physical strength was not her main attribute. She was an engineer, and she was great at solving problems and having ingenuity. I loved watching Juliette struggle but succeed throughout the premiere. It's different than having a character who is given everything and we don't get to see that struggle. After having rewatched Season 1, the premiere did slow down, but we got to see Juliette grow as a character and more world building set up to come. Juliette might become one of my favorite female characters of the decade because of what Furguson is bringing to her.

Mythic Quest returns January 29, and they also have an anthology spinoff called Side Quest that will debut all their episodes at the same time as the season 4 finale.

I feel like Season 2 really did start tonight. Last week was all about Juliette. This week is all about the reaction of the main Silo to seeing Juliette go over the hill. The pacing felt a lot better than last week but it just feels like the season is building and that's great. Looking forward to next week.
