Jeez, 5 pages already.
It would have been silly for them to make the crew wear new uniforms. Starfleet would send them maps/information on getting home and some outlines for the new uniforms they were wearing back in the Alpha quadrant? Why would the crew GIVE a crap about their uniforms anyway? It was very likely they wouldn't even get back in their lifetime.

I thought it was interesting that in the original simulacrum, Starfleet decided that the Maquis were not worthy of Starfleet Uniforms. because Janeway didn't bother to say that she had been handing them out like candy...

Doesn't an old uniform mean that you're out of uniform, and their legal authority from Starfleet comes form their uniforms? At least in so fdar as policing goes? Checks and balances.

I remember reading some of those Sharpe Novels and the "propper" Officers would go mental at sharpe when they noticed that half his uniform and supplies were taken from the French.

^what with all the time trael we'eve seen, I'm sure that there is a rule covering that it doesn't matter what uniform you are wearing. If your in one you're subject to the rules.

Do you think you could just put an old uniform into a replicator and program it to turn it into a new one? Because if it was that easy no one will need wardrobe space in the future. It's not like we see an abundance of closets in crew quarters either.

If it really was that easy and didn't use any resources other than the original uniform then I think it would be a good move on Starfleet's part to make the crew feel they were still part of a growing, changing organization. However any resources used to do it would make it a wasteful move.

Actually, as far as time travel goes MacLeod, it's impossible and illegal for these people to enforce Federation law before it was written and ratified, and if some different time zones must be considered foreign soil, then all different time zones must be, even if you've only just stepped back 5 minutes, surely?

That is until the Federation starts planting it's flag in particular "Years" and garrisoning those eras against threats from other times, with or without telling the locals that they are just really pets who only think they are the rulers of their world.

Oh, how fickle the temporal prime Diorective must be.

Though as soon as the Federtation writes and passes such a law, the future will show up and tell them to kneel and kiss their ring. Do unto others, y'know?

I remember being told that if a police officer tries to write you a ticket, and he doesn't have his hat on it doesn't count... Of course proving that he wasn't wearing that hat is difficult before the invention of the cellphone camera.

Back then being out of proper uniform was an offense. Wearing the enemy's garb was a no-no, and IIRC, during the American Civil War, the Union sometimes executed any captured Confederate dressed in Union gear (and some did, because supplies were short).

Also, 100+ years ago, non-uniformed combatants were often considered criminals, and if captured, treated badly, maybe even subject to immediate exection. That's one reason the Geneva Convention addresses the treatment of non-uniformed combatants.

Maybe Janeway and/or the crew decided to wait until they reached Starfleet before personally receiving new uniforms, like it was something (lame) to look forward to... or maybe they enjoyed that retro flair...

Clearly, it wasn't a lack of resources on the ship, as that crew lived in style all the time. Perhaps the lack of resources stemmed from the production crew....

Since they wouldn't spring for a red-shouldered uniform during Tuvok's captaincy, which IMO realy hurt that episode (I forget the name - it was the one with Janeway, Chakotay, a monkey and a bathtub), they weren't suddenly gonna pull a 180 and replace everyone's outfit. IIRC, those First Contact-style funeral jammies cost a few thousand dollars each.

Yeah...the lack of a red-shouldered uniform really hurt that...as did the fact he remained a Lieutenant...couldn't Janeway have brevetted him a Captain?

He had written off Janeway for dead, he didn't need her approval.
Nothing was stopping him from assuming the position himself.

^ Another reason why the episode fails...really a plot as serious as the Captain and XO being put off ship needed a two-parter at least to properly explore the ramifications...

interesting thought...if he had properly been given the rank and all that, when Janeway returned, we'd have two captains....I'm guessing janeway doesn't have the power to demote someone of equal rank...

I don't agree.
I don't see wee such minute details makes the episode fail.
Honestly, I've never heard anyone even bring it up or notice until now.

I don't see Tuvok taking Janeway ti the mat about relinquishing rank.

I think that the Voyager part of the episode feels so...lacking...and since I didn't really care for the C/J plot, I was hoping the Voyager plot would be more interesting...

For instance, where's Paris during all of this? Technically he's Tuvok's XO now, by virtue of being the next most senior bridge officer...he should be dealing with Kim's bitching and moaning rather than Tuvok...

I think Tuvok would promote LT. Carey into that position before Tom. Tom is undisciplined and unworthy of that position. I also don't see Tuvok just promoting Tom or anyone without allot of consideration of their service record and if their capable for the job.
