And we know that the handle was the only difference, how?
Because no other difference is shown or mentioned.

So with only that to go on, we have to assume that it's the same phaser with a curved handle instead of a straight one, assuming anything else is unfounded speculation.

We can only go on what we see or hear on screen.

Does that tell us whether or not the curved ones are better than the straight ones then?

No?

Oh well...

I don't follow your argument, is it that we should ignore what we see on screen or that only what we see on screen should be followed?

Or is it, my opinion is the only one that matters and everyone else is wrong?

Yawn.

Come on then, enlighten as all what upgrades the curved phasers have got over the straight ones that have never been shown or spoken of?

Gotta agree with JB2005, I expected them to switch to the new uniforms after they made contact, to heighten their collective sense of being part of the fleet again and thus increase morale, or just to follow regulations. It makes no sense to keep putting on/replicating the old design and maintain their separation.

Well personally I'd posit that these are the "Regenerative Phasers" that are discussed in the DS9 episode "Field of Fire" and that since they were apparently able to function in Energy Dampening Fields and other environments where the traditional phaser could not, then they'd have a number of upgrades and advantages...

I think it makes more sense to save that energy to keep the ship running. Thanks to Neelix and the holodecks, morale was never an issue.

From TNG In Theory.

KEIKO: Every night, Miles leaves his socks on the floor. When we got married, I made the mistake of picking them up a few times. Then I realised, if I kept it up I'd be doing it the rest of my life. So I stopped, figuring he'd get the point and do it himself. One night goes by, two, a week, ten days. By now there's a pile of socks half a metre high.
O'BRIEN: Come on, it wasn't half a metre.
KEIKO: After two weeks I couldn't stand it any more. I bundled them up and put them in the cleaning processor. And I'm still doing it.
O'BRIEN: And a very good job she does of it, too.
That's a lot of socks.

50 centermetres tall?

Why would a man, even a married man won that many socks?

Volume of a cone

assuming the height equals radius, which we have no reason to do.

13 thousand cubic centermeters

That's a lot of socks.

How does he have room for porn in his sock draw?

More importantly, why does Miles continually wear more than one pair of socks a day?

On the way to becoming Howard Huges in Space I think.

So far, uniforms are more important than eating, defense and a warm dry safe place too live. You maybe starving, homeless, cold and dead but you'll look good knowing your wearing the latest in military gear.

Ok...except no one has said that...

I keep saying that "if you're replicating uniforms anyway why not just gradually replace them with new ones"?

All good questions that need answering.

The transporter is hardly in constant use, my guess is he uses it as a replicator when he's bored and his hobby is to make socks...

It's all on a single PADD!

More importantly, why does Miles continually wear more than one pair of socks a day?

Again I'm going to go with boredom, I'd imagine that when he's bored he replicates all manner of weird and wonderful socks and is constantly changing them...

..and I keep saying they have bigger more important priorities.

Sometimes they do...but not constantly, certainly for the last 2 seasons they seem pretty contented with life...after Dark Frontier they never make a serious attempt to get home until Endgame - even though in Q2 they are shown how the Delta Flyer can be modified to get them home...

Combine this with all that time they spent sat on that planet making repairs in Nightingale, I'm surprised the idea was never mooted...

They replicated all those holodeck costumes.

If the Equinox crew didn't have to the power to wash/replace their uniforms...

(Which they didn't)

Did they stink?

They would have stank bad.

After a few weeks of that, as captain, I would have instituted a habitual state of nudism.

What if he wasn't wearing those socks consecutively, but coinstantaneously?

You hear about how blokes have to double bag.

What if Miles O'Brien has to tripple bag?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you can't fit 148 people in the Delta Flyer. So doing that modification would be a waste.
