No end has been set. So far it's 8 or 11 books depending on whether you count the String Theory trilogy and including The Eternal Tide, which will be released later this month. However, many regard Kirsten Beyer's books to be a re-relaunch, in which case we're talking about four books including Tide. __________________

The Hirogen have appeared in both Demons of Air and Darkness and Mere Mortals.
The Malon also appeared in the former book.

In fact, what were we talking about?
..."Threshold" which is an episode that I've decided doesn't actual exist.
