Should there be a Star Trek "romance" series?

Yeah, I think something like Moonlighting, or more recently Bones would work. Both had for several seasons that "will they, won't they" thing going on, which is usually more fun for audiences than immediate coupling. I think Bones would be the better one to emulate, while amusing at times, it wasn't as much of a romantic comedy, which would probably be a better choice for a ST show.

I'm thinking a ship-based, exploring strange new worlds show, with one lead being the captain and the other a civilian scientist (to avoid any potential chain-of-command ickyness).

Honestly I find "will they won't they" stories endlessly frustrating and played out, because we all know that they will eventually, so it's imho painful to watch when they try to convince us that "perhaps they won't!"
Maybe have it for the first season and then in the following ones we can explore the growing relationship.

If they go forward with Starfleet Academy, a good half of that show is gonna be who's banging who.

The other half will be Boothby decontaminating the holodecks.
