Me too
Quite right! And to be honest, I'm somewhat surprised after Pike's wonderful introduction in “Brother” that's not something I'm hearing more around here. He seems to gel perfectly with the crew and the show, so why not just keeping him on as the captain? Why do that when he can stay on long-term with Discovery?

The dialogue suggests that Pike’s promotion led to his leaving the Enterprise to Kirk; that said, I like your idea. This could certainly could be written around.Pike held the rank of "Fleet Captain" at some point, and it could easily argued/written that he commanded the Discovery directly , but the Enterprise (and potentially others) remained as a "direct report" ship under him with its own independent commander. Therefore, Pike technically still could "hand over" the ship to Kirk at the change of command.
MENDEZ: You ever met Chris Pike?
KIRK: When he was promoted to Fleet Captain.
MENDEZ: About your age. Big, handsome man, vital, active.
KIRK: I took over the Enterprise from him. Spock served with him for several years.

I'm probably the biggest fan of Pike, but a spinoff showing Pike's missions this late in the game (2258/9) doesn't sound very appealing.
If they were going to do a Pike show, I would have rather it started from his early days commanding the Enterprise, leaving a lot of room for him and his supporting cast to start off green, and grow.
Quite. Pike has clearly been planned for a short season-long arc on Discovery and I think that's the right call.I think part of the popularity of Pike was the fact we didn't see mch of him; and I think one Season of the character of ST: D is just enough to 'flesh him out' - without going overboard. Besides in 10 or so years, we KNOW where he'll end up.
So why can't they do that? Nothing says they have to start the Pike series after he leaves Discovery. Start it with him taking over command from Captain April. The events that happen during his time on Discovery could take place during the down time between seasons.
It must be stated, that everything Commodore Mendez told Kirk regarding the later accident has to be treated with a grain of salt, as Mendez was not really Mendez in that episode.
If I were the producers I would definitely consider this. I would lay it out like this.
1. We know how his story sort of ends. A fleet captain, commanding multiple ships and being injured in a profound way. START there with a couple of great flash forwards.
2. Lay out a multi year, limited plan and a clear time frame for the show run.
3. Write each season with each character (Pike, Number One, Spock) having a very specific arc.
4.THEN write season one.
5. Refer forward every once in a while back to the end, the crash. Then the real end, in the last scene, we see Kirk, board the ship, but never see his face.
you make a good point. its probably just me.
but on a different note. this guy Anson Mount, i could see him vaulting over to movies from this. He may not be available long. Honestly I'm surprised they held on to Yeoh.
