A series like this might seem like a good idea but there would always be a dark cloud hanging over it...knowing what will eventually happen to Pike. :(

I vote let’s see. I just think we need to have a full season to get a real idea of Pike as an officer. I’m sure Mount can do it. Just want to be sure where it all lands.

The Enterprise is being repaired and he is canonically the captain of the Enterprise until he hands it over to Kirk. It just wouldn't make sense for him to abandon the Enterprise and stay on the Discovery for multiple years.

Why not? Kirk won’t take command of the Enterprise for many years. Plus, I highly doubt that if Mount is popular and they want to stick with him, that they’re going to worry about ‘canon.’

Well there is nothing in canon saying there wasn't another captain, so him staying on for an extra season wouldn't contradict TOS as long as he went back to the Enterprise at the end.

No. He comes to a very sad end. I'd rather see one year of the character at his best.
I don't see what's wrong with ending a Pike series with that, or ending it before that. It's still a few years out I assume, I don't think there is a canon year for his accident.

you make a good point. its probably just me.
but on a different note. this guy Anson Mount, i could see him vaulting over to movies from this. He may not be available long. Honestly I'm surprised they held on to Yeoh.

There effectively is as in TOS S1 - "The Menagerie" (taking place in 2266) Commodore Mendez says (In answer to Kirk asking what happened) - "There's been Sub Space chatter about it for weeks..." - plus once Spock found out he quickly came up with and set the events depicted in "The Menagerie" into motion - so yeah, Pike's rescue of a group of Cadets (which is what caused his condition) happens sometime in 2266.
