Yeah, that's insane. Why would anyone be upset with people who like a show that they do not?

Err. i can cite at least 50 examples of outright visceral hatred from one group of people who like JJ Abrams version of Trek versus the purists of older Trek who are outright nasty about how the franchise has changed under his stewardship.

I just don't get this, "I don't like it so it should be cancelled" mentality. If you don't like a show, don't watch it. Don't waste your time thinking about it. Why wish for it to be taken away from the people who do like it?

Kind of reminds me of my feeling on Enterprise. *sigh*

I do recall a number of people saying that they couldn't wait to see Enterprise cancelled, because it would piss off a lot of ENT fans. Now, I understand wanting a good show to retire before it gets worn out or feeling it's worn out (this is how I feel about The Simpsons), but I've never understood the desire to have something cancelled for the express purpose of wanting other people to lose their show, for any reason other than sheer malice.

There's some excess malice but if a show goes on long while getting critically derided that does diminish the general public's perception of the "franchise" and its fans overall.
With The Simpsons although I don't watch I do want to watch the eventual (intended) finale.

Reread the same post as sarcasm. It's funnier that way. ;)

they should keep going till they have broken like every record for longevity then end I think, some of the newer episodes are still pretty funny and I guess having loved the show so long it's hard to let go for me but yeah, keep going till it's the longest running thing ever basically then think about the end.

That would be several more decades with soup operas.

well maybe not soaps, but in terms of actual tv shows I think some still have more episodes or something!

In terms of longest running scripted television show, The Simpsons surpassed Gunsmoke, which was the previous title holder, about 5 seasons ago. So it is currently #1.

Is that a new form of dinner theatre?
