Should Star Trek just give up?

I think concept should be king. It keeps everything afloat and our attention distracted, not the characters. They writer's said they finally 'got' the concept after most of it was written. In my opinion, concepts should come first. Am I wrong ?

I think this would be about the best time to try Trek again. I mean we're in about the same place as we were in the 1960's.

We're afraid of nukes, mostly terrorists getting nukes.
Iraq seems like Vietnam but with a heck of a lot more sand.
people think the world's going to end

Absolutely nothing like the effing 1960's is it? So we listen to Green Day instead of the Beatles, and we have cell phones and iPods. Honestly, the 2000's so far seem like 1960's part two. So if you're going to revive something from the 1960's, I think now is probably about the right time.

Besides I'd like something optimistic, I'm kinda tired of the whole "we're doomed" thing.

Back in the '60's, we also listened to the Velvet Underground, which is as close as to Green Day as you could get. And The Doors were a lot like the Cure and the Cult as to be...well, the same.

I think it should keep going. Yes, Star Trek will change over time but it is still good and worth watching. The basics are still there, fun sci-fi adventure that touches on the human condition. :)

I know -- I swear, I've read some about the 1960's, the vietnam war, all that stuff -- we're almost in the same place we were. The arguments about vietnam sound like what we're saying about Iraq -- about the only big difference I can really find is that *my* generation blogs instead of marching. The Hawks and Doves are still there. The domino argument is still there. The whole argument about who loves the troops more is out there -- the Hawks love the troops by wanting them to finish the job, the doves love the troops by wanting them home.

I think we might as well break out the tie-die shirts and travel the country in brightly colored volkswagens -- we've done everything else.

Actually my generation is lazier.
