I tried eHarmony for a little while...and did find a local guy that I talked to a bit during a free communication weekend. Traded e-mails and 'chatted' a little after that. Seemed like a normal enough guy. I just couldn't scrounge up the courage to ask him to meet in person and apparently he couldn't either. Call me silly but I kind of want the guy to take the first step and ask me out. So that's the downside to online services, I think, in a way: you gotta be willing to take the risk to meet in person eventually.
Yeah, I don't who I really am to be giving out dating advise, I'm 27 and I've never really dated, ever. I'm more than a little self-conscious about my appearance, which I think feeds into that. Sometimes I think people get confused about my age, I don't know. When I was 24 people would come into the office I was working at and ask me what high school I was attending. I've started noticing it happening less lately, though. I also tend to like less active hobbies like reading and writing and movies rather than sports or socializing at a bar or club. I've thought about speed dating or something like that, but it seems like most of the ones I see are '30 and over'. I've also thought about joining 'events and adventures' for singles, but I'm not sure it's worth the cost.
Anyway, I don't know, I am getting a little desperate these days compared to even a year ago and if I had that last situation come up again I probably would go ahead and set up a meeting time for coffee or something like that. Then again...I'm pretty fine with being on my own and having my own schedule and own place. I do know that if I ever want a house of my own, though, two incomes would be better than one so having a partner would be better. Maybe I should try some of the free websites again.
