Should Discovery kill off a character after Season 1?

Tasha Yar was killed off as she wanted to leave the show, but I think it is a trend in series these days so that viewers are never comfortable with 'false suspense' so it may be something the showrunners have already planned into the show to add drama...

I'd like the show to have that "anyone can die at any time" vibe that The Walking Dead had at its peak. Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence, after all.

I always thought it would be interesting to do a show where a character dies off at the end of the season. For example, plan for the show to run four seasons and hire five cast members. Then film the show as far along as they can until they have to write the finale. Then have all the actors draw lots. The loser gets written off. Repeat the process each year.

So basically like a scripted/fictional Survivor thing.

I do it with a show premise similar to Voyager with a smaller ship--say the size of Firefly.

It's important to have credible mortal danger in the show, but it's more important that death be impactful and consequential.

I know that the narrative is that Crosby wanted to leave TNG, but I suspect that Yar was also partly killed off because the character didn't really gel. Crosby herself wasn't a good actress either, and she didn't seem to really understand the show at the time, and I think the decision to kill her reflected those facts. Under normal circumstances she'd probably have simply been written out of the show after the first season.

If someone on Discovery doesn't pull their weight they might go the same way, but casting is generally a more meticulous process these days. It's unusual to see a big-budget show getting it wrong. I think any deaths on Discovery will be entirely story-related. No shock value, no behind the scenes drama.

They should have Patton Oswald appear as Cyrano Jones and do a running gag of him seeming to die at the end of each episode he's in.
