Sheen, "voluntarily enters rehab center"

Yeah I lost a little respect for Alex here, letting Charlie rant like that. I know the two of them are friends but as a friend he should realize that Charlie is having problems and not enable him.

Wait. You HAD respect for Alex.... woah.

Charlie and his fire breathing fists. Love it.

But, not a smart thing to do. Clearly, there are things to work out.

The thing I'm wondering about is what prompted this outburst by Sheen. Previously the producers had very publicly supported him, and they were going back into production next week for 4 more episodes.

So he is just so whacked out of his skull that he can't help himself or I wonder if something happened behind the scenes that we're not privy to. It just seems odd for him to go after the producer at that point.

Now today, I could understand his rant. But not yesterday.

That's pretty bad. I hope he gets things sorted out.

All you guys who think it's funny... it's not.

You're right, it's not funny that Sheen publicly and viciously insulted his show's creator. It's not funny that dozens of people (or more?) are now out of work due to his reprehensible behavior. And it's not funny that he is so delusional he doesn't realize how erratic and troubling his behavior is.

What is funny is all the crazy bullshit he spouts as though he has the slightest clue about anything. If he wrote a book full of his batshit metaphors, I would totally buy it.

#$%& My Charlie Says. Probably be a best seller.

That lame joke aside, it really is just another sad hollywood trainwreck in the making. And just like the cliche' about trainwrecks, you don't want to see it, but you can't help yourself. :(

I don't think they'll have the guts to do this, but you have to wonder if they pulled the plug permanently on his show if that would wake him up. Or is he just too far gone.

There's no reason to think that losing stuff will affect Sheen's decline at this point. Something might, but it's really almost impossible to predict what might or might not be the final straw in a case like this (and sometimes it's the most trivial seeming thing). Most addicts, however, die as a result of their addictions.

On Thursdays I do a group at the treatment center called The Hijacked Brain.

There are four main points we begin with every time. The 4th point is: What's invisible to you is obvious to everyone else.

Charlie is sadly providing me with a lot of great material. This is Denial 101.

I do like the show, and I hope for his kids' sake that he can get on top of his shit, but so far this is not what we'd call a positive profile.

A lot of people had given up on Robert Downey Jr., of course, and he seems to be doing well right now. So while the outlook is pretty dark for Sheen, it's not hopeless. One counselor I knew used to say "it's as dark as you want to make it." I was surprised at how many of the people she treated found that a greatly reassuring remark.

Yup. I once had a friend who had a great life: his own house, three trucks, a job that paid $40 an hour with benefits, the works. He had a girlfriend that got him involved with crack, and inside of a year he had lost everything and was robbing convenience stores to get his fix. Nowhere along the way did it seem to matter to him what he was losing. Not when his trucks were repo'd, not when he lost his house, not when he lost his job--it just didn't matter, all he cared about was his next hit, and whatever it took to make it happen, he did.

This happened several years ago, and he has been in and out of prison since. Every time he gets out, he just can't stay clean, and ends up committing a robbery or stealing from friends, whatever it takes to get more shit. He has lost everyone and everything that ever mattered to him and he still doesn't care, or at least can't get himself sober enough to care. :(

Yeah, I remember how bad things got with RDJ and a lot of people wrote him off. He was off the radar for several years. I don't know exactly what he did to get clean and stay clean but it seems to have worked very well.

Addiction is serious shit and Sheen is delusional if he thinks he's magically "cured" it "with [his] mind."

Losing this income means nothing to this guy apparently. He can still buy more hookers and coke than the average person.

"One cannot alter a condition with the same mind that created it in the first place."

Usually attributed to Einstein, but so many people have stuck that poor fucker with so much popular profundity - even during his lifetime - that I'm mildly skeptical.

You know, blaming him for everything is probably exactly what will kill him eventually. The guy needs help. What he doesn't need is getting laughed at, despite of what he's doing now. I hope you treat alcoholics you know with more respect. Or are you just going to laugh at them until they are gone?

No, it's got nothing at all to do with what will (probably) kill him eventually.

Which is not to say that we should laugh at him. "Shoulds" don't have much to do with this either way.

The guy needs help.

Yes, he does. And all of the help he could ever possibly need is right in front of him, being offered to him right now.

There are four main points we begin with every time. The 4th point is: What's invisible to you is obvious to everyone else.

This is so, so true. I was insane enough to think, for more than two years, that I could drink a fifth of vodka every night, show up at the office the next morning at 8 a.m., and no one would ever know what I had been doing. Christ, what a fool I was.

I can't imagine that anyone could listen to that recording and not think he was on a coke binge that would make Tony Montana say "damn, mang."

The guy needs help.

Yes, he does. And all of the help he could ever possibly need is right in front of him, being offered to him right now.

Yep. Unfortunately, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink it. Sheen clearly has no interest in actually getting well, and I feel for his family, because I know what I put my wife through.

It sucks to see that Wild Thing has fallen completely off the rails.

Is it really so contradictory that I can think a lot of what he said was funny while also recognizing he is seriously messed up and needs help? I mean, I wouldn't think it was funny if he died.

The responsibility to take the help he's being offered is on him, though. He can't be forced to get better--he has to realize he has a problem and that he can't fix it all by himself. Feeling bad for him is kind of beside the point. He has more resources available to him than 99% of the population and if he can't accept the help that's right in front of him, that is hardly anyone else's fault.

That's what kind of pisses me off. Especially since fewer and fewer insurance companies are covering addiction treatment, it bothers me that the vast majority of people have to white-knuckle it during their early days of sobriety, and he could get a 90-day stay at Hazelden without blinking an eye.

But I suppose that's the reality of me being a lowly Web & new media coordinator as opposed to a Hollywood superstar. I just really hope he can get some mental clarity soon.

Oh, please don't go into the "whiny rich guy" rant direction, that's even uglier. I know poor people who had the same attitude. How wealthy you are doesn't mean squat when you're an addict. It only means that you don't have to rob people in order to buy a shot.

Probably this recent vanity card from Chuck Lorre for the episode that aired on Valentine's Day a few weeks ago:

http://www.chucklorre.com/index-2hm.php?p=329

Chuck Lorre said:
I exercise regularly. I eat moderate amounts of healthy food. I make sure to get plenty of rest. I see my doctor once a year and my dentist twice a year. I floss every night. I've had chest x–rays, cardio stress tests, EKG's and colonoscopies. I see a psychologist and have a variety of hobbies to reduce stress. I don't drink. I don't smoke. I don't do drugs. I don't have crazy, reckless sex with strangers.

If Charlie Sheen outlives me, I'm gonna be really pissed.
