A video being two hours long isn't an excuse, it's a perfectly valid reason. I'm also not watching these videos because if Imkeep them running it will make them money and I'm not going to support people I obviously disagree with financially. I also have zero interest in "X sucks and here's why" clogging up my recommendations. The videos I posted were, as I said before, people making an honest critique of the show, not excuses to slam it; I happen to agree with them. The critiques aren't any different from what professional critics would do, and to be frank, people like yourself are just angry that somebody did said honest critique, and isn't jumping on a popular bandwagon, so you all won't look at them because.... excuses.
Yes, that happened and a part of the fandom is toxic and sucks (and not just for that reason, there are other examples) but how does that reflect badly on the show?Oh yeah, Chris, about that; another reason to be wary of this show is this incident involving a teenage girl who engaged in 'wrongthink' by drawing Steven's mom as thin instead of fat and who was driven to almost commit suicide to the bullying she got from fans of the show on Tumblr.
Ian Jones-Quartey, the afro-american male on staff has been Rebecca Sugar's boyfriend (now fiance) since before development of the show started, so your implication that Sugar is a secret (or not so secret?) racist is a bit weird considering they both had to deal with actual racists because of their relationship. He'd have no problem bringing problems up with her, they never had just a boss/employee relationship.Yet another reason to be wary of this show is the creating by Sugar of a black character that looks like the stereotypical 'jigaboo/'darkie' depiction of Afro-Americans in the 1900's, 1910's, 1920's, 1930's and 1940's, which by accident (ha!) she left in the official scrapbook, for which she and her staff was rightfully blasted (and her staff has an Afro-American male who himself didn't raise a flag with his boss about this.)![]()
The drawing also wasn't made by her, she still took responsibility for it though. It was made during a period when the entire staff just spat out designs and ideas to see of something useable came out of it. And sure, the drawing is problematic but I again fail to see how this is evidence the show sucks or that the staff isn't progressive. They're not perfect, a mistake was made, an apology issued and the drawing removed from subsequent prints of the book.
"Rose Quartz Is A Fucking Cunt"? Didn't you just say it was an honest critique that isn't different from what a professional critic would do? Somehow I think it's quite far prom a professional critique. For those who complained about how long the Lily Orchard critique video was:

Most of the reasons you gave why the show sucks are subjective (the characters not being likable), ridiculous (feet and weight), outright lies (the show trying to garner sympathy for homeworld's facism), fan behavior that has nothing to do with the show whatsoever and a drawing from yesteryear of a character who never made it into the show.
Your claim that the show somehow defends facism is especially bad. Let's look at the things homeworld has done:
- Colonization of other worlds, killing all native life in the process - condemned by the show/main characters
- A strict caste system and suppression of individual freedom - condemned
- Experimentation with shattered/deceased gems and creating what amounts to tortured creatures - condemned and shown as horrific as it is.
- Corrupting countless gems on earth, takimg away their sanity and conscousness, reducimg them to a state resembling confused animals - condemned
About the staff not being as progressive as they claim ... I don't think they have ever claimed a specific level of progressiveness but let's look at some things:
- Steven has a dark skinned indian-american girlfriend (which worth mentioning, that's still an issue for many people)
- A stable, lesbian relationship, eventually a wedding with an on screen kiss on the lips.
- A male main character who defies stereotypes, who is in tune with his emotions and who has primarily defensive powers (a shield and healing)
- A wide range of strong, female characters
- Realistically portraying emotional issues and long term consequences
