Shatner talks Trek XI on CNN.com

I love you Shat, but its time to give it a rest.

I know this must hurt, but you killed Kirk years ago. This is making you look old and bitter.

Actually he didn't kill Kirk, I think it was B&B, but unless Abrams had/has a good way of bringing him back to life that wouldn't make the Trek community scream I say leave him off.

Isn't he still "alive" in the Nexus? No reason ol' Ambassador Spock can't "retire" to there at the end of the flick.

People love downplaying Ron Moore's involvement in Generations... despite the fact he co-wrote the script. With Berman producing, Moore and Braga co-writing, the only difference on the creative end between GEN and FC were the directors, David Carson and Jonathan Frakes. But nobody talks of FC as a solely B&B effort, do they?

Moore is as culpable as Berman and Braga. Shatner's as culpable too because, although it wasn't his idea, he went along with it. Anyway, it's moot: Kirk's been dead for a decade. He's not likely to come back. Or rather he will - as Chris Pine. Let's hope this new guy's good.

He left the Nexus, I don't think what's left (his echo or whatever the line Guinan had) can leave. Time to move on and see what this cast can do with it.

If Picard could hang out with Guinan's ghost in the Nexus, there's no reason, that the *end* of the movie couldn't have Spock doing something similar.

Yes, he did by agreeing to play the role in the script that was written. I really have a hard time feeling too sorry for him about that considering he has probably made a tidy sum of money off the series of books spawned off that death.

I wouldn't have a problem if Spock got to see Kirk in the Nexus one last time, but I'm not sure if that can be done without knowing how the storyline for the movie is already written.

Edited to add: Ugh, I just read that CNN article, and I have to say I'm not impressed. He's really coming across as whining to me.

This all sounds like sour grapes to me. Mr. Shatner should've took what was offered during Enterprise's final season but was obviously far busier doing Boston Legal. Now the tables are turned... the new management have a lot more cash to play with and none of it heading in his direction.

I read it, and it doesn't seem like whining to me.

And he's got a point; sci-fi is what it is, and his death doesn't necessarily have to be permanent.

But either way, I'll be there opening day next December.

I thought, what a decision to make, since it obviously is a decision not to make use of the popularity I have to ensure the movie has good box office. It didn't seem to be a wise business decision."

Everybody set their ego shields to maximum - There's a massive shatwave coming in!

I think we are going to in some way see shat in this film..don't ask me how, but hey like the article said..they brought back spock..and in a cool and clever way IMHO...so you never know..and let's not count the "Shat" out yet!!

IIRC, Shatner agreed to do GEN knowing that Kirk would be killed off. Also, during the filming, he changed his mind and approached Berman with an idea to have Kirk survive but Berman was not interested. I believe a version of Shatner's idea was turned into one of his Shatnerverse novels, maybe "The Return."

Shatner has continued to age, and not too badly I suppose. However, in the nexus, Kirk didn't age during the 78 years he was in there, where time had no meaning. Here we are 13 years or so later. I find it impossible for him to play Kirk younger than or even the same age as he was in GEN.

Give it up, Bill! Kirk's dead because you allowed it! You are responsible and now it's way too late to change your mind.

This is perfect example of what I've been saying all along. Shatner is in it, but they're not telling anyone. This very interview gives more publicity to the movie because of this "controversy." The longer it goes, the more free publicity the movie gets. Then when it hits a fever pitch, or a lull, they'll announce Shatner will be in the movie and get even more free publicity.

So don't worry. Shatner will be in the movie. You heard it here first.

Poor Shatner. He can't imagine them making a TOS-era film without him.

Meh. He'll find his way in somehow. He's The Shat, after all.

Not all publicity is good publicity. The longer this goes on, the worse everyone involved starts to look.

^^^ I agree, but I think Shatner comes off looking worse than everyone else. I mean come on... the man is well into his seventies and yet still manages to find himself on a hit TV show with a couple of Emmys under his belt to boot. This only makes Shatner's Jovian-sized ego seem all the more gargantuan.

Bill. PLEASE. We love you. We adore you. You will always be James T. Kirk to countless millions of your fans. But enough is enough. Let. It. Go.
