Shatner "I don't know how they can do (ST 50th) without me"

Quite frankly, I don't want him in the new movie or the new series.
The new movie should stand on its own, having Spock in the first one was good but his appearance in into Darkness made me groan. The third one should be cameo free.

The new series can have a cameo (because it will be a series so a one episode thing is just a one episode thing), but I'd rather have someone from TNG, that cast is relatively well known outside of fan circles, so the cameo would still mean something. I'm against Shatner for two reasons, in the prime universe Kirk is dead and buried and in the JJ verse he's Chris Pine (and let's be honest, if the series takes place there a nuCast cameo would be the most logical)
I do not want Nichols or Takei anywhere near Star Trek ever again, those two unsympathetic tools are overestimating their own importance waaaaaay too much and Takei's appearance on Voyager was already too much for me to take. I could almost read his thoughts when I looked at his smug face "Eat shit, Shatner! I'm in the captain's chair now ... if I do this right "Captain Sulu" will happen ... MUST.ACT.CAPTAINLY!!!", he was auditioning for Captain Sulu so hard he forgot to act on Voyager.
I don't want Koenig either but unlike Nichols and Takei I do not dislike him, so I left him out of the rant.

If they do a 50th anniversary special Shatner would be the first (and only) TOS cast member I'd invite, the other surviving cast members should not share a stage with him as if they had the same impact as him, this may sound petty but things like that annoy me.
This reminds me of the time The Facts of Life got a TV Land award, you know who was there? Mrs Garett and all four girls! Also Cloris Leachman who was only a part of the show duri g the bad last two years but whatever, she was a main character and she's also Cloris Leachman.
You know who was also on stage grabbing an award? Cousin Geri! Blair's unfunny "comedian" cousin who had cerebral palsy and made cerebral palsy jokes ("I'm not drunk, I have cerebral paaaalsy! Tehehehe"), she appeared in 5 or 6 episodes over nine seasons and there she is standing next to these six women who actually starred on the show as if she belongs there.:klingon:

If there was any one thing I did find really wrong with Into Darkness...it would likely have been double-dipping the Nimoy appearance. So I am inclined to agree....yeah, not so great an idea.

An anniversary show should be about Star Trek itself, and not reflect any petty infighting that occurred between cast members. I think any surviving cast member needs to be allowed to share in the experience; Hell, invite any recurring character, guest star, writers, producers, etc to come along. They all made up this great show, and if they're still alive, they should be celebrated.

Even though I have no idea whatsoever what the new show will be I can think of one way Shatner could be involved.

Simply have him introduce the series. Say you have a half-hour introductory special to the show. Why not have Shatner host it?

"Hi, I'm William Shatner. You may remember me from films like The Devil's Rain and Airplane 2.

"I'm not in the show that you're about to watch."

Sean Connery hasn't been in a Bond film in about 40 years. But would you purposefully exclude him from a Bond 50th Anniversary special?

Note that he was asked to promote the 50th, but refused because he felt jilted by MGM.

That would depend on what kind of money he wanted to do it. I don't think anyone's being "excluded" out of spite. OTOH, I doubt that they're going to conjure up an event simply for the sake of building it around him.

I can't remember which anniversary it was but someone gave me one of those coffee table sized Star Trek anniversary books. It was huge...can't find it now. Nice pictures. I remember the tribble episode on DS9 and Sulu on Voyager but I can't remember any televised anniversary specials. I'm sure they were a 'thing' and I must have watched them but for the life of me I have no memory of them.

If Shatner is in any sort of special I'm sure I won't remember that one either.

Long story short, very fucking easily. Then again Shatner spends 90% of his time trolling people on Twitter so I suppose someone took one of his remarks seriously and wrote this "article".

Paramount is kind of dropping the ball on the 50th Anniversary. They are offering the fans little to nothing.

^This.

Shatner is fucking awesome.

At this point, from a pop culture perspective, Shatner and Stewart pretty much are Star Trek.

Sure, they can make and do Star Trek without those two, but, to be fair, they haven't made a lot of good Star Trek without them.

And Shatner wouldn't be Shatner if he didn't make comments like that. The day he comes off as humble is the day I worry...

I never, ever thought Shatner would fail to show up to Leonard Nimoy's funeral. That was probably one of the biggest dick-moves Shatner has ever pulled. Maybe someone finally had enough of his ego, and figured they could do a 50th show without Shatner.

How can you take an interest in the subject and not know the basic facts? The Nimoy funeral was moved up suddenly to keep too many fans from clogging the event.

Shatner was in Florida to appear at a charity event. He chose to stay for the charity because it is what Nimoy would have wanted. He did something good knowing people would dump on him for it. There was nothing he could have done in that situation that somebody would not call a foul. He had to do one thing or the other, so he did.

Regarding a 50th anniversary special, there might not be one, so all this talk about who's invited is pointless. I remember seeing the 30th anniversary TV special, hosted by Ted Danson, it was pretty good.

I remember that! Was that the one with the intro featuring Space Shuttles and other historic space stuff? I recorded the intro music from the VCR to my PC using RCA cables back in '96 ... I've still got the mp3 on my HDD

That was a pretty damn awesome anniversary
