Actually, SGA was at the top of it's game when they canceled it far as I knew. They did not want 2 SG's to be running at the same time and SGA would have over shadowed SGU. Either way SGU was doomed from the start. 
I want SGA back so bad...I hope another company like, *cough* SPACE *cough* picks it up and does something decent with it. Considering it is filmed in Vancouver area in Canada.
*SPACE is the scifi-horror-fantasy channel here in Canada for those who do not know.

Bullshit. BSG's scripts were nominated twice for an Emmy, something Stargate's writers were in no danger of achieving.

SGA was not perfect either and anyway it had a good run as 5 seasons is about the norm for shows these days.

BSG problem was it put off casual viewers so I can't understand why MGM/The Writers and SyFy wanted to go down this road with a Stargate show ? at least at this point in time where TV audiences are disappearing faster than icebergs in the summer.
oh and for BSG --- it was a fine show but outside the miniseries/season 1 and patches for the rest of the way, it was over-rated no doubt. A good show but not in the league to be called one of the greats TV shows of our time as many claim.

You need to get familiar with Gatworld and it's fans so that you know that what is obvious is only for the objective.

Yeah, but if you're just replacing one Stargate show with another Stargate show, the least you can do is give the current Stargate show a final season to wrap up its story. As it happened, SGA got canceled and had to rush an ending.
They could have even used SGA Season 6 as a backdoor pilot for SGU, similar to how SG-1's "The Lost City" served to introduce the idea of Atlantis.

I was not bragging, (I am sorry people took it as such and I will try and watch what I say in the future) I was just letting people know, as I might mention it or my site in the future without really realizing it. Actually, I am proud to be an Admin. of a Stargate website for as long as I have. As probably most Admins are of most sites they have worked long and hard on. Not being the owner, I have really no say as it will likely be shut down.
With SGU being canceled, it does effect smaller websites like mine (we are not nearly as large as Gateworld) that are Stargate based sites. Just as I am sure it effected some smaller Star Trek sites when Enterprise went off air.
BTW as I explained in a previous post, I just forgot to add the Syfy part of the cancellation as I was typing. It happens sometimes.
Oh, and I am a 'Girl'...not a guy if you were talking about me as a 'He' up there.

Be nice, guys, she wasn't bragging. SGU's eventual cancellation was discussed quite often on the forum she was/is an Admin for, and sadly the cancellation won't be a good thing for the small but fun forum.
If the show had moved faster earlier on, we might have another season or so...but like somebody said earlier, a show can't 'find it's footing, they have to hit the ground running' and instantly grab the viewer's attention. SGU just wasn't exciting enough to draw in or keep a strong fanbase.

It is possible to be very critical of nuBSG and acknowledge all of it's faults and missteps where storytelling is concerned without pretending that SG has ever been nearly as impressive.

Actually you are making my point for me. By your own admission, BSG had a brilliant first season, while SGU needed a season just to get going. And by that time, SG fans like me had stopped watching the show.

As I said, I really love Stargate. It is an entirely different series than BSG. BSG is a dark, dramatic sci-fi series and SG-1 and SGA were perfect antidotes to that. I loved the light, adventurous and humorous sides of the previous Stargate series. I am only comparing SGU to BSG because the writers/producers purposely tried to emulate BSG and it is obvious they failed. Ron Moore had a clearly defined vision for the show. That vision seemed to be lacking on SGU.
All three Stargate series weren't very good--they were just campy shows stealing similiar elements from other more popular and better sci-fi shows like Star Trek and BSG with stupid alien threats like the G'ould, Ori and poor Borg wannabes in the Wraith.
BSG is overrated and far from the brilliant masterpiece some claim. It had a very strong first year and the first half of season 2 was great as well but then after that it became highly uneven and aimless with a bunch dead-end plot threads, wasted characters, silly romantic coupling, too much pointless filler and it started to buy its own hype and became way too pretentious for its own good. Its final season was all over the place and was only salvaged by a great series finale that managed to work because of the great character moments and not because of its botched mythology. The Cyclons ended up being one of the weakest and most uninteresting alien adversaries in all of sff.
