I agree that it was a slight decrease in quality from last week but it was still a good episode.

Greer's character got more depth, TJ being in charge was a nice touch and Eli was less annoying than I usually find him. I wish they found something worthwhile for Chloe to do, besides smooching Scott.

I'll keep watching. I think this is going to develop into a great show eventually!

Well, the alien swarm was interesting; another real hard SF idea imported into Stargate. Other than that, not much of interest. They seemed to be using more of the Cops camerawork again this week. And I laughed out loud at Rush's comment for Eli to stop acting like a child; the whole premise of these nuBSG-type shows is for grown men and women to act like maladjusted adolescents-- and Eli is probably the most mature character on the show. :rommie:

:bolian:
The only strike against Col Young, besides visiting his wife is his lackadaisical dealing with the Sergeants Mutiny. Judging by the previews Col Telford will bring up that mistake in the next episode.

Eli is about as close to a maladjusted adolescent as the show has, he's a college dropout living at home with his mother playing internet video games, he doesn't even had the courage to get a job.

And Rush is a bastard, so he'll always twist that knife when he wants Eli to shut up, even if it doesn't entirely make sense. "Yes, not telling the person in charge of the ship stuff that's going on is the right thing to do. You'd understand that if you'd ever went into the real world."

7 Chevrons

Much better than last week.

Oddly, I gave it 7 chevrons for the reason I liked it less than last week

Still an enjoyable episode, a bit of action, some good old fashioned cliffhanger (literally) jeopardy, and the plot with the aliens was good and with the implication of more to come with the moment at the end. I like TJ in command showing that not all military officers are isntantly wonderful in command (and that includes regulars, unlike SG-1 where only guest cast were ever crappy) and especially not those of medical speciality (TNG's Descent Part II, anyone?).
Downsides were the return to the sole focus on a handful of characters we had in Air. I don't think Ming-Na even appeared? Plus Sgt. Supplies gets caught and gets a 'ticking off' that would embarrass a British Magistrates Court.

I noticed how Lt Busty Chick told Chloe that Lt Scott was in trouble. Lt BC was hoping Scott would die over the radio so Chloe would get all emo about it. Watch out for BC, she's sneaky and devoius

I sense a catfight brewing... I've seen enough real ones so I know what to look for.

Chloe: plus: righteous fury minus: no fight training

Lt BC: plus: trained soldier minus: off balance due to being top heavy

I've got a microwave popcorn popper so I can make some up right quick for the big fight.

I sooo much enjoyed Sgt "I can invent stuff too" Greer acting straight out of Aliens with his flamethrower. He would have fit right in in the US Colonial Marines.

Oh, speaking of Aliens, the guy who does the dumb thing and dies from injuries inflicted by the gnat aliens... is named Gorman. Not a Lt, just a corporal, but still a wrongheaded goofball. I'll keep watching for more SF references.

Exactly. And he's still the most mature person in the cast. :rommie:

That's true as well.

Since the format of the show is blatantly derivative of nuBSG, comparisons are pretty much inevitable.

No. No he can't. But he is on notice.
Fame looks good on me. :D

But your consistent potshots aren't. You're bashing of nuBSG is tiring and usually only barely related to the topic at hand. You're not "comparing" anything; you're just getting in cheap shots.
I don't think so. I criticize the whole 'darker & grittier' fad dating back to the Reagan years; nuBSG is just the closest antecedent to SGU and therefore the most likely to be mentioned.

I gave this one a 7. Good, but not great.

I don't like the pairing of Chloe and Scott, but it doesn't look right now that it's going to be a focal point.

I really like Young. Next week looks interesting with him and Telford going at it.

Lastly, we had a couple of Major Rack sightings, but her full uniform doesn't really cut it. Maybe they need an episode where the ship's temperature goes out of whack (call it "Heat").

I know....I'm a pig. Oink oink.

I hadn't seen this series at all, and yesterday I burned through the first 6 episodes. Honestly, this one was the most forgettable. It seemed to have some promise once the swarm showed up, but they didn't really do anything with it. And the jeopardy premise of having Lt. Fucksalot get trapped in the ice just did nothing for me.

Dr. Rush needs to figure out that being a raging asshole is going to have only one result: the military guys will get sick of his shit and take over the whole operation. He might think they need him, but they could probably get by with just Eli, who is far more pliable and can't keep a secret to save his life.

I know it's going to sound weird, but when I think back to the episode's story I'm rather underwhelmed, yet the actual execution is really nicely done. I enjoyed the ep more than I expected. My initial thought was "Yet another resource they need to get ep, joy." but it was played nicely. The cast does a good job of elevating the material from predictable to entertaining.

I get this feeling the story of the "bugs" is being set up for something down the line. I just hope they don't make it a repeat of the Replicators storylines from SG1 and Atlantis.

Oh, and I'll chime in on the Lt. Scott and Chloe thing getting a bit tedious. I mean, we know they have rooms with doors - so really? You couldn't wait long enough to get to one? And you're in the middle of who-knows-where and you keep your radio off to get some without interruption? That struck me as stupid on his part.
