Actually, they can make it a bit like the Matrix too with some deep dives in to the Borg Collective similar to how they visited Unimatrix Zero in Voyager, but with loads of other mind bending high concept sci-fi stuff as well about the nature of reality and existence to make people’s heads hurt. But they have to make sure that it all makes some kind of sense by basing it on real philosophies and science. Something intellectual as well as exciting to watch, large in scope and scale yet still intimate and grounded in the 25th century of a Star Trek universe we know and love.

Icheb and Hugh could return in some form of Unimatrix Zero as mentioned above, but they might not be able to leave this unconscious realm for the ‘real world’ as their physical bodies are ‘dead’. This could open up a debate about what death actually is *and* bring their characters back.
