Series 12 News & Spoilers

There's a DW thing on CiN on Friday. Dunno what, though - probably 30 seconds of the characters giving out the donation numbers or something. (And doubtless Jodie and Tennant doing their songs from the album)

Honestly. I've been wondering if the BBC is going to do a surprise drop of Season 12 with the premier on the 23rd, much as streaming services do. It's doable -- the episodes are in the can, all's that's left is post-production on several of the episodes, and that can be wrapped up as the series broadcasts.

That would be awesome.

...just you wait, someone will come along and complain about why that's so awful. ;)

Not sure if awful is the word I'd use. Unwise, maybe. Given the show has struggled with ratings in recent years, you'd think BBC would want to hype the shit out of the first new episode an almost a year. Telling people to "watch this space" for three weeks doesn't really guarantee they're watching BBC1 on the 23rd.

But that aside, the sheer ballsiness of it would be very awesome, I agree.

Yeah, that's a fair criticism which is why I don't think they'll do a surprise drop.

On the other hand, regardless of how much promoting they do, I've always found it bizarre that the BBC waits until the a week or two before the premiere to even announce the premiere date, a baffling practice that Netflix has taken up.

Dropping it all at once would be a worrying idea, would suggest the BBC don't feel confident in it being released weekly. Who is still a prestige show, they'll still show it week on week I suggest. I wonder if the announcement will be that there's definitely a Christmas special this year.

I haven't talked with anyone at BBC America about this in some time, but the BBC's secrecy on air dates was an issue they were not happy about as recently as five years ago. They saw an advantage in same-day broadcasts, but without knowing when the BBC intended to launch (or, worse, knowing and being unable to say so) their marketing efforts were impaired.

More light bulbs did the trick, apparently. Or is it just overlit for the pic?

Still hate that console room.

Glad the writers of three of my favourite episodes are returning. Also glad Chibnall will be writing fewer episodes, hopefully that can only improve the quality, what did he do, six plus Resolution last season?)

Whatever they do it's still the worst console room of the New Series*.

Capaldi v2
Smith 2 / Capaldi v1
Eccleston/Tennant
Smith 1

Whittaker

*Should we still be calling it the New Series after nearly 15 years? The Original was already up to the "The Key To Time" by this point!
