Series 12 News & Spoilers

Rule #1, the showrunner lies.

Again - I'll refer to real world politics - they are not going to a) cast the first black doctor, b) do press interviews about it being the first black doctor and then c) turn around and go "actually it was all lies" - absolute shitstorm.

It's the Doctor. The actual doctor. The real, not alternative universe, not twisted timelines, but real Doctor. she just happens to be a black woman this time.

It's not the Valeyard, it's not Susan - it's not K9 in a suit - it's the Doctor.

100% agree.

Now admittedly I don't hang out at the sort of places where the nastier elements of fandom gather but I have been pleasantly surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reaction to Jo's casting and as you say, no one's going to want to face the backlash that would accompany them going "Ha, fooled you!"

I'm pleasantly amazed at the lack of bitching about "another woman" and "a black woman".

Maybe I'm just in the wrong place for that...

What about the Rani?

What about the Rani?

Again, like JoeZhang says - you (meaning Chibnall) do NOT get to tell the world 'this is the first black female Doctor' and then go back on it in some way. Not in the age of the SJW. No takebacks. You try to take it back, you're done. Reputation, career, fortune, GONE.

Rule #2, tabloids lie.

That's because all of the people who had issues with Jodie have already all left in a huff or were banned (for other reasons).

Isn't it just possible she's a future Doctor? I'd hate it if the First Doctor wasn't REALLY the First, since he's the ONLY one who actually never played an incarnation of the Doctor. Just the Doctor.

We’re clearly meant to think of her as pre-Hartnell, and seemingly working for the CIA. Since she’s using the Doctor moniker and has a police box exterior for the TARDIS already, we can’t chalk up the new cycle/memory wipe to a witness protection deal.

I'd say it's best not to dwell on the Police Box as proof of when she's from, as it had to look like that for the reveal to work.

Give it a few years and Big Finish'll crank out a box set to explain it away. (Jacob Dudman's already practising the voice in case Jo doesn't want to do it.)

Direct quote from show runner.
That could write such a Doctor in the future - this is not that doctor. This Doctor is our Doctor.

There's several points that are just off. I don't know what's correct but there's not a consistent story. And, really, is Chibnall talking to the Mirror? I kind of doubt that given it's reputation. Why not Radio Times?

But, it wouldn't be lies. She'd be the real Doctor, just from a different universe, or maybe the future ala the Curator. If you met an alternate you, or a future you, you both are real. No tricks. No lies.

Again, you might be right. But the answer might be elsewhere. We simply don't know. In fact, going by the evidence in the show, that one episode, she'd seem to be a regeneration between Hartnell and Troughton. She has Hartnell's Police Box, but she doesn't recognize a sonic screwdriver, which Troughton used. That's just information readily apparent in that single episode.

Weren't the events of the theoretical Season 6B wiped from the Doctor's mind?

Plus one variation of the theory is that Ruth! Doctor is the actual Doctor of this universe and 13 is the one out of place.

Basically the idea is that somehow when 12 regenerated into 13 and it blew up the Tardis, that knocked it and 13 into a different universe.

Of course Jack's appearance kind of nukes that theory.

6B is just fan theory. Never explicitly stated onscreen. So, not knowing definitively whether it happened, we don't if the a mind wipe occurred! If it didn't happen, obviously no mind wipe.

But, 6B would be between Docs 2 & 3 rather than 1 & 2 anyway.

That would be an interesting take. But, Whitaker has been confirmed for another season. Seems to rule out that possibility. Unless we're getting another season of Whitaker as an alternate Doctor!

Well no in the theory is that Whitaker is the right Doctor, she's just in the wrong universe.
